You could try a adjusting the tension cable for the drive. many drive systems rely on "slipping the belt" to achieve lower ground speeds. Though I wouldn't know a Mac Allister if it bit me in the leg!

Ah, Sandy. I still have OS 8.6 functional on a Mac II CI. Still, I don't ever use the machine anymore, because it is soooooo slow! On the other hand, my Power Mac G4 400, is now an "old" machine also, and I have upgraded the OS to vs. 10.2.8, but that's as far as I can go, without a new machine. It is a never ending money pit, but new machines are unavoidable, just to stay connected to the web and email. Even your ISP will not support systems but sooooo old, and if you want things to work well, you are forced to upgrade at some point. I can tell you that you won't need anything more than an iMac, today, to get very adequate capabilities on a Mac. I can also tell you that the price gap between wintel and Mac has all but disppeared, if you compare functionality to funtionality. In fact, at work, I actually had to pay more for a Dell, that did the same job as a Power Mac G5. (smile) If you have an Apple store anywhere near you, it might be worth checking a new machine out. (Or a Fry's superstore, although they won't be able to offer as much help to you, as the Apple store, in looking at what the new machines will do.) Otherwise, my favorite on-line folks are Small Dog. Best support out there.....including Apple. (smile)

chisue, it's not fracking. It's extracting the oil from the oil sands up north. It's a different process. There may have been forest fires in the region before, but never ever anything like this. This fire is now 3 times the size of the city of Edmonton and moving towards the Saskatchewan border. They are calling for only 3mm of rain today, but there are lightening strikes as well, which is the last thing that's wanted. High winds are still blowing. They are saying this fire could take months to go out. They need snow. Lots of snow. No rain. People keep saying rain is needed, and lots of it. But with rain often comes that dreaded lightening. It is much cooler today than it has been all week which may help a little bit. 20% of the homes have burned, most of which burned to their foundation. They said the infrastructure is still in terrific shape and many people will be allowed to come home soon, but power and gas needs to be repaired first. And I'm furious that people are knocking the NDP government for what they believe is lack in leadership during this disaster. Nobody knows the protocol or procedures for disasters, and people are forgetting it's just ONE of about 46 fires burning in the province. The entire province is on a fire ban right now (although the city of Calgary only has a fire advisory, we had our fire pit burning last night). I think Rachael Notley is doing a terrific job staying calm under pressure. This fire is not how about politics. It's about the 88,000 misplaced residents. The people who died fleeing the fire in a car accident. The firefighters and military personnel on the ground and in the air fighting to save a city and the environment. It's about coming together as a community to help a fellow citizen in dire need. I'm so proud to be an Albertan when I see just how much people are donating whether it be cash, food, water and clothing or their time. People were filling gerry cans of gasoline to help those fleeing the city and whose vehicles ran out of gas trying to get out. Nobody had time to fill their tanks and with the drive so slow getting out of town, many ran out of gas on the side of the highway.
