How to download music?

Where is a good site to download Free music for background sound on some of my emails?

First do I need to put a file somewhere? Or how can I download on the Media folder?

I am using XP and IE 7

ok Betty what kind of music are you wanting are you just wanting short sound files or are you looking for full songs by specific artists?
There are many file format types that music comes in so you would need to know if there is a specific file format you have to have, for example midi, wav, mp3 etc. If you just want small sound clips you can find a lot of those for free on the web they come in .wav and midi format. If you want real songs you probably want mp3 format.
The main question is where can you download SAFE files that are not infected and also do it legally.

You will need to have a folder on your computer that you will have dedicated to storage of your sound files, XP has such a folder under the MyDocuments area called My Music so you can just store them all there and you will know exactly where to find them.

I will provide a link to a website that has a lot of free.wav files you can just click on any of them to listen to them, they are free, but I always advise once you download it to your pc before you ever click on it there to play it, right click on it first and choose scan file option so that your antivirus program will scan that specific file and make sure it is clean.

Betty, there are many sites that have free downloads of .midi files, which make good background for e-mails. Some limit themselves to certain kinds of music such as sacred or music of a certain era. Do a google search using the name of a specific song, for example, and be sure to include .midi in the search criteria.

one site I have used for years is garageband, you will not find todays top artist there but you may find some fabulous as yet unknown artists. I like it because of that, it is different and not something I have heard a thousand times. The artist themselves put their music up on the site to be heard and maybe get a break in the industry if enough people download their music and it has definitely happened to a lot of them. Now not all of the ones there have free downloads but many do and there are a lot of categories of music. I have been a member for several years, you can also help by doing the ratings of songs and artists. GarageBand, totally legal personally anytime I download anything to one of my windows machines I just make a habit of right click and scan file prior to opening, it is a good habit to have. Never seen anything bad from garageband downloads

The problems are these: 1) All "free" download (sharing) sites are illegal. And they're still searching and prosecuting nationwide. I've read recently that the average settlement is something like $3,600.00. 2) Since the days of Napster when everyone had to be at one place, the selection available has been incredibly compromised. Maybe you'll find what you want of maybe you won't. 3) Many of these site are LOADED with crap you don't want to mess with. Can't remember the name of the one based out of Vanu Atu, but they became, essentially, bug-ware central. 4) For whatever reason, you will be finding MANY mis-identified entries and all manner of deception among the offered downloads and their purported quality. If you want to mess with all that, be my guest.

Import the songs into iTunes: Insert the CD, and wait for iTunes to show the songs in the CD, and then click on "Import." The songs will automatically create a Library of songs within iTunes. Once a library is created, if you now connect the iPod to your computer, iTunes will automatically transfer the songs to the iPod. Of course, you can also download music from the Internet with iTunes. There is a PC as well as a Mac version of iTunes. The CD that comes with the iPod has both versions, but it's a good idea to update the application every now and then. For iTunes to do all that, you must set its "Preferences." There is something else about the iPod, and soon other products: Some car stereos (look at the Crutchfield catalog) are iPod ready, while others require an optional electronic box. If you use one of these radios and have an iPod, you no longer need a CD changer. All you have to do is to connect the iPod to the radio, or to the control box, and the radio's display show the songs being played. You can scroll to whatever song you have in the iPod from the radio display. If you have 10,000 songs in your iPod, you can drive across the US listening to your music. The control box, keeps the iPod's battery fully charged. Other companies should jump on this technology any time now.

Betty, I forgot to mention that I made a folder in My Documents that I named midi files and that's where I download the midi files to keep. You can keep them wherever they are most convenient for your use, but a separate folder is best.
