Potty training via Leah.....lol (pics)

My DS in Minneapolis sent this to me last week....

I asked Leah why her baby was in the potty. She said, "It's time she learns to use the potty and start wearing big girl pants."

Here she is on game day a few weeks ago. Our Vikings lost but they/we are still die hard fans.

Five kids and ten years later DS and BIL are FINALLY done with diapers...LOL! I can't imagine!! She has been "dry" for two weeks plus over night in her pull-ups so I guess they are history too.

I thought the first pic and her response was too funny.... thought I'd share it with y'all. Gotta love those little ones and kids in general...lol

That first picture is hilarious! I think I need to buy the whole potty instead of the insert that goes on top of our regular potty. Maybe then Maggie's babies could go potty and Maggie would be interested.

Maggie told us "she doesn't have time" for going to the potty. Boy, she is to smart for her diaper.

Our crates are in our (generous) clutter room. I have a few friends with in home kennels - one was even featured in Architectural Digest years ago. The only reason I didn't do an actual kennel room was because we really do want the dogs with us most of the time. That said I am a huge proponent of crate training, not only for housebreaking but because a dog needs it's own sanctuary and most importantly it's for the dog's protection. I cannot even begin to list the number of things I have taken out of dogs' GI tracts. Not to mention chewing electric cords etc. Our clutter room has a dutch door. I really admire those of you who allow your dogs free roam of the house at all times...... we live on a farm, mud, horse crap, burrs etc are part of our live. Without a full time maid I would spend the large majority of my time cleaning up dogs or their footprints etc. ( we have 4). When they come in from outdoors it's essential to have a place to contain the dirt/mud etc. For us it's the clutter room and/or crates. PD

I am amazed at seeing cats put outside but I don't like them being outside all alone, that is a danger especially attached and they can't run for it if a dog or something comes to it. Should never be left alone for any time at all. That isn't the point of those things, if so, then keep them both inside where its safe. I have seen what I think is great but probably expensive to do. Is like a huge cage, they completely put wire all around and so they can go out in the yard on the grass, climb tree if that is included and have a great time and be completely safe because they are completely fenced in top, and sides. Its kinda like the dog runs but its a huge area in the yard, you attach it to a room of your house so they can run in and out of it.

We rescued our Shih Tzu a year ago and he has gained access to the whole house. Mostly, he only stays where we are though. At first he had regular poop accidents on the rugs, but we've gotten him house trained and it's rare for him to poop anywhere. Thankfully he only peed in the house twice in the early days (was very quick to pick up peepee is for outside). Now, he's not so reliable at my MIL's house so he gets crated or put in the sunroom (only if we can't watch him constantly). Anyway, I would not let my dog have free run of my house until he understands not to pee or poop in it. Sure, let them spend time in the house while being watched, but it makes no sense to turn your back and have them pee and poop on your carpet (if you have wood underneath that carpet it can be ruined). You have to take them out alot and praise alot for going outside. They should not have a chance to be full enough to go inside. When we're gone from home, I always put him in the bathroom. While he doesn't chew on things except for the occasional crayon and his toys, I don't want to risk it. I would be so mortified if he was inspired to chew on something and got hurt. At least I know he has plenty of room in the bathroom and can't get into anything. AND, dogs are not people. While they are members of the family (I think mine is my third child), it's ok to set boundaries. YES, I did and still do set boundaries for my children in our home. Might be why my rugs are spot free, the walls are clean and my upholstery is intact. For instance, the kids have no reason to play in the guestroom. They can go in there to look out the window, and sometimes I let them sleep in there, but there are limits even my people babies can't cross. No, I don't keep my house a museum by any means. I homeschool my kids and we live fully in our house, but even so it still must be a respected space. Sorry for the mini rant, but the earlier comment inspired me : ) .

Uncle David, Your niece is so cute! That is funny with the doll baby. 5 kids?? WOW.

Karen, That Maggie is too smart for her diapers for sure! I'll bet Lily will have some equally as funny reason not to use the potty. Beau was a dream but he had a scary fear of falling in so the potty assistant had to hover over him and he had a death grip on your arm.

David, that little girl is one smart cookie, LOL.

RR, Ashley never had an excuse for not using the potty. She just "wasn't going to". My Mom asked her once when she was going to start using the potty and she replied "never, never, never, ever". LOL She was about 2 1/2 then, but sure enough, at age 20, she's potty trained finally.

Bud turned 3 in october and he does really well in the day but still can't stay dry at night. When he stays all night with me, I don't let him sleep with me, LOL.

David, Leah is a doll herself and what a good mommy she will probably be someday since she is already teaching her doll how to use the potty!

She's a doll! Wow, 5 kids. I'm staggered and impressed. By now, they have the potty drill down! The pics are precious.

David I can't believe how big she is and how cute! Seems like just yesterday you were so excited with her birth......girl baby!

What cute pics and story.......kids say the darnedest things! Probably the only one that remembers that!

Thanks ladies! Karen some of the boys had Maggie's idea and Cathy I remember that death grip while babysitting my nephews way back when. Annie, I hear ya, it only took one time being....well you know before I started taking precautions when little ones spent the night. Sharon, I think I remember.....thinking I was being "trained" about that time...LOL...love ya!

~Sigh~ My Grandomother used to say "You've never seen a college kid with a pacifier,diaper or a bottle, did ya? Just leave those babies alone and they will do it in their own time." LOL!

Such a cutie pie! I love that Vikings Jersey & helmet as well as the dolly on the potty! Girls were easier to train, that's for sure!
Jayden wasn't truly trained before 2.10. That's when in one week summer nursery transitioned to fall nursery class and all kiddo's had to be out of diapers. Astonishingly, he rose to the challenge! He's still not dry at night but rarely has an accident during the day.
