How to Delet AOL 10.0

Thought newer version of AOL's 10.0 would be better & downloaded it- now the only thing I get with it is a black screen with a blue bar across the top. And to further aggravate me the darn thing pops up all the time I'm using 9.0 & won't let me continue 'til I right click & close it...only to pop up again & again, even while posting this. I have Windows XP.

I tried to delete it but it says it only removes the desktop icon- hope someone will tell me (step by step in simple terms) how to get rid of this &!#*@$ thing before the men in the little white coats are called! It's impossible to get a real person @ AOL.

you would have to go to your control panel then to add remove programs wait for the list then look in that list for your AOL 10.0 click it to select it then hit the remove button. that is how to remove a program. Just trying to remove the icon for it that is on your desk does nothing but remove that icon it has no effect on the program.

You can also try this, click start> all programs> in the list find AOL 10.0 click on it and see if it says there is an uninstaller if so you can select the uninstaller and try to use it.

I would still go to start> control panel> add remove programs and make sure it is gone from there too.

I will add a little to what RavenCajun said.
Control Panel - Add and Remove Hardware -
Click to Change/Remove - AOL Uninstaller (Choose which program to uninstall)
When you click on this your computer will do a search for
all AOL Programs and you will be given the chance to select
which one you want to remove.

IMAP works such that what you do in the client is reflected to the server, and vice versa. That's the point of it vs. POP3. Any messages you want to retain on the GMail server, you can't delete them from the (IMAP) GMail account tree in Thunderbird. I *never* keep long-term copies of mail on a server. It's *my* mail, I want it archived to *my* computer. IMO there's too much risk of a hacker getting access by brute-force or a server-side security flaw. My computer is more secure, less likely to be hacked, and I can back up the data. I have messages in Thunderbird that date 10 years back. And archived data MUCH older from Outlook Express.

raven- yes, that was what I was thinking of, thank you. I do not use OE very much- I would rather use Yahoo. I find that I can't delete the addresses by highlighting them and then deleting. Will I do this BCC with Yahoo also? Now, I have mentioned the security risk to two people- my cousin, and a friend. Both retired. Their reply to me was-'I.ve been doing it this way for years and nothin' has ever happened to me- I've never had a virus'. One, the cousin, has had to send his Dell back twice- about 3 -4 years apart as I remember it. His computer was totally gone- he lost all pictures, folders, addresses- everything. Couldn't this possibly been a virus? I guess as long as nobody gets his 401k, raids his bank account, or credit card, he thinks he is safe. Maybe he is, I don't know- but what little I have, I want to keep. As far as the other poster, he is my friends husband, and HE KNOWS EVERYTHING!!(he woulda' been a divorced guy many, many moons ago if married to me.... hmmm, probably dead and buried in the cellar..) What can I say to these guys- just because you haven't been 'hiy' yet, does not mean it won't happen in the future?? Thanks for the site.

pinecone If you like AOL and are satisfied with it then great, but in most peoples opinion it is way over priced and very invasive and controlling from what I have read and heard. As an owner of a website that is updated every week AOL is my biggest head ache! When I get complaints that someone can't see my lastest updates it always comes from someone using AOL. Seems that AOL just cashe a page when you first visit it and just serves it backup to you the next time you visit the site. Re-freshing the page doesn't work and redoing settings in the browser the user has to change is the only solution, but why should I have to be the one that explains that to the AOL user and I have to all the time. My solution is to tell them to download Firefox and use it instead ;o) Just my 2 cents

A Windows "Restore" was not the proper thing to do in this case. Most email utilities have a "trash" bin in which deleted messages fall into. These messages are not gone until the trash has been dumped. To retrieve a trashed messsage, move to the trash bin, highlight the desired message and then click on "file" (Not the file betton in the upper left of the frame) or "move" button. A drop down menu appears asking which folder you do you wish to move the messages to?

That should be "Add or Remove Programs" you don't want the one for Hardware.

I had Desktop 10.0 for a few days and I removed it.
I really didn't like it. Your better off without it.

Thanks everyone! I was not ignoring y'all...just frustrated with the whole thing. Finally just removed all AOL (however, never saw anything that said 10.0), then re-installed 9.0.

Didn't want you guys to think I wasn't appreciative of your help. So to let you know...I could NOT uninstall/delete 10.0 Called AOL to cancel my account a live tech support person was suddenly available to help. Hmmm, funny how that works, huh? HE couldn't get the dang thing off either and mad as an ol' wet hen, I packed up computer & sent it to my son. Bless him- he copied my files, cleaned the hard drive and am up & running again at long last!
