Details?

Email client, service provider, sent mail, received mail, web mail, local drive, last backup, . . .

Any and all of these would help in figuring out what you need to do.

Shaddy, Move all of the messages you want to keep from the inbox and then do this. How to delete inbox/outbox files NB: Email program has to be closed. 1) Click on Start/Find/Files or Folders 2) Ensure you have c:\ selected in 'Look in' 3) Type in inbox.idx and click 'find now' 4) Ensure you can see the correct file by checking in 'in folder' so you can see if it's an outlook express or internet mail file etc 5) Right click on the file and select delete. 6) Change the search to look for inbox.mbx and click 'find now' 7) Repeat steps 4 and 5 8) Restart the PC The same procedure applies to outbox.mbx and outbox.idx

deleting addresses of others on email

raven- yes, that was what I was thinking of, thank you. I do not use OE very much- I would rather use Yahoo. I find that I can't delete the addresses by highlighting them and then deleting. Will I do this BCC with Yahoo also? Now, I have mentioned the security risk to two people- my cousin, and a friend. Both retired. Their reply to me was-'I.ve been doing it this way for years and nothin' has ever happened to me- I've never had a virus'. One, the cousin, has had to send his Dell back twice- about 3 -4 years apart as I remember it. His computer was totally gone- he lost all pictures, folders, addresses- everything. Couldn't this possibly been a virus? I guess as long as nobody gets his 401k, raids his bank account, or credit card, he thinks he is safe. Maybe he is, I don't know- but what little I have, I want to keep. As far as the other poster, he is my friends husband, and HE KNOWS EVERYTHING!!(he woulda' been a divorced guy many, many moons ago if married to me.... hmmm, probably dead and buried in the cellar..) What can I say to these guys- just because you haven't been 'hiy' yet, does not mean it won't happen in the future?? Thanks for the site.

recover email/delete/recycle

When you delete an email it does not go in the Recycle bin. In Yahoo it goes to the Trash folder, in Outlook Express it goes to the Deleted Items folder. Try looking there. If however you have emptied either of those 2 folders you are probably out of luck. If you find it you can either drag it back to the Inbox or right click on the needed message and click 'Move to folder'. Then select the needed folder.

My seup (Outlook Express) has a list of things on the left side . Among them are "delted items" That's where they go initially, but when that one is emptied I guess they go to MARS or someplace. Grady

Only if you are using an on-board email client such as OE or Windows Mail: There is a free application called RECUVA that you might want to try. I've used it both successfully and unsuccessful. However, I have never attempted to recover an e-mail with it.

It has a wizard and is somewhat easy to use. When the report appears after using the wizard it is quite lengthy. Click on Switch to Advanced Mode in the upper right corner. A Search bar will appear. Type in .eml. Then just follow the instructions.

I hope it works for you.

If you are using an on-line account and the Delete folder has been emptied they are not recoverable.

it depends on the type of email client there are some that do use recycle bin and some have their own built in recycle bin, web mail clients would not send to the recycle bin once they are gone they are gone.
which is why we are asking for more info to have a clue as to which type of email client it might be.
