iphone 4s, 16gb

I will buy this phone and would like comments about the extras that I should get like the Applecare insurance.

I will use it with Sprint.

Any suggestions in general that will help me adapt to it? I have not bought a personal cell in 7years.

If you haven't bought a new cell phone in 7 years, you have a learning curve to negotiate. Amazing what these smart phones can do. There are any number of sites with suggestions for apps to use. Just Google for "must have" apps for your new phone.

I have an LG something, not sure what it is, apparently the latest model, and I do not like it. The screen is ginormous, and it's got all the bells and whistles, but it's taken me so long to get used to it. I have found that the battery does not last as long as my old iPhone. However, it does tend to keep apps open in the backround, so that sucks out the battery. I also find that some settings change-for example, if I turn it off, it automatically goes to silent. I have trouble setting the volume-just lots of problems. But I think it's because I haven't spent the time to learn it. I had asked DS to help me, but he's not familiar with Android systems (all my kids are iPhoners). I had an iPhone 4, and when I was ready to upgrade, there was fantastic deal on this LG, so I went with it (paid $50 for it with all the accessories thru Costco-everywhere else was over $200 even with the upgrade). All my music is on iTunes, so I can't get it on the Android-but I've heard that there is some way you can do that-just not sure how. Some day I may learn all the features, but if I knew then what I know now, I'd have stayed with my iPhone.

See, I hear the word "sync" and I automatically go into convulsions. It involves this horrible program on my computer called " iTunes". I have saved pics on my iPad I would like to transfer to my computer. I have pictures om my comuter...like my decorative painting portfolio- I would like to transfer to a SEPARATE folder in the gallery on my iPad, so that when I meet clients, I can show them JUST my portfolio.. I have never managed to achieve this with the iPad and that horrible iTunes. Have tried many times....for whatever reason, only some of the files in the " portfolio" folder on my computer get transferred. With my android phone, I simply hook it up to my computer and drag and drop whatever I want to and from my computer....FULL manual control....no "syncing" nonsense!!! My next tablet will almost certainly be an android....candy crush stopped working long ago on this iPad so I'm not sure what I'm even waiting for at this point.

I dropped mine in the toilet as well. Had it in the jacket pocket, and it flipped out when adjusting clothing. What a shock! They say not to try to start it (I did). Put it in a container surrounded by rice for a period of time. Then DS took some part out (not the battery). I set the phone on the counter and turned on my hair dryer about 6' from the phone and let it run about 20 minutes. Then I put it on the TV cable box which is warm for 1-2 days. The phone worked after all that. Then I took the phone to Apple so they could look inside. Apple guy said he saw corrosion in it but I should continue to use it as long as it works. It never did stop working and would probably still be working but I replaced it with a newer model. The above practices to dry a phone are not recommended by the manufacturers (except maybe rice).

My DH and I both have 7’s and haven’t had any issues. I’m a huge Apple fan only because they do everything I need or want them to do seamlessly. That said, I would NEVER EVER buy a phone for a 1,000 and I think it’s hideious that they feel justified to charge that.. We also have Verizon and have over the years been told MANY untruths by sales people trying to make a sale. I seem to remember something about them working for commission so from my perspective seems like Verizon tends to propigate it. We bought our last phone at the kiosk in Costco, it was a good experience, but if something needs fixing I don’t trust easily and will go to the Apple Store.

mxyplx, I wasn't ready for that. You got me there. I have already written on other site about noise pollution and mostly dumb women in stores and cars AND bathrooms using their cell phone so I agree with all that you have spoofed. It's a mood changer as you know.

grandms, you are right and since I need a digital camera and video and can get the phone for $200. before monthly charges as I am a Sprint customer with the old buddy plan I think the time is right.I guess I need to know what not to buy.

So, no one knows about AppleCare or has any suggestions. I might me on the wrong site here or should look for magazine articles. Everyone likes Adroid and I have a boss that wants the 4s and I have written before how I have stalled.

I saw the site about the favorite apps.
I was hoping for some out of the box experiences that I should expect. Also, what to do if I lose it or have problems with it. Can I take a class from Apple to learn it well enough to support my boss. I am having some learning difficulties and seek help where it is easily available. Thanks.

If I had an Apple. . . hmmm. Sorry, but my phone is an Android, but I did not spring for any sort of warranty plan on it. Just not sure what Apple offers with AppleCare, so I can't be of any help there.

I don't know anyone who is displeased with their iPhone. If you've used an iPod Touch or iPad, you'll be completely familiar with the interface. If you haven't used one of those devices, the learning curve is pretty mild. I don't know anyone who hasn't picked up on an figured out who to use the device in short order, including a kid with Down's Syndrome.

In terms a warranty the standard warranty should be sufficient for the device itself. The only thing you have to worry about is accidental damage. Both the screen and back of an iPhone is glass and WILL break if the phone hits the ground with sufficient force. Only you can decide if the $99 is worth the investment (plus $49 per incident of accidental damage). A replacement iPhone is something like $500+.

As for apps, what happens for most people is that download a bunch of apps but end up using a only a handful on a regular basis. There are lists of "essentials" but it's really a very individual choice.
