White subway tile with blue glass accent - same color grout?

A follow up to my previous post (thanks Bill!). My WHITE horizontal subway tile is halfway up the wall, and topped by a 3 inch strip comprised of horizontal 1 inch glass BLUE subway tiles. I am using Custom Building "Platinum" grout on the white tile. Same grout for the blue tile accent subway tiles, or use something darker like "Dove Gray"?

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I saw some bisazza mosaic blends at Home Depot (yep!) that looked fantastic with carrara (the mix was white/grey with a few iridescent tiles included) and it wasn't too pricey ($7.92/sq ft). the blend was "roma plus" - I couldn't find that blend on the bisazza website, but HD lady said many mfgs. have special products just for HD. I was also thinking of doing something similar - using the bisazzas on one accent wall, and running a strip of bisazzas around the rest of the room. I'd pay special attention to the undertone of the subways and mosaics & make sure they're ok with the carrara. whites can be really tricky. when next to stark white, the bisazzas had a grey-ish cast, which looked great with carrara and the almost black vanity. don't know what brand of subway tile you're looking at, but i believe the various dal whites have slightly different tones. also, the glass mosaics tend to be thinner than regular tiles, so be sure to take that into consideration during the install. I've seen the mosaic bands set between pencil liners, and that looked good.

Just to follow up, I did hear back from the tile distributor. Their response is below (in short - yes it's the same tile): ... Thank you for your interest in our products! These are all the same product, just with different lighting. From experience working with this material personally, I can tell you that it looks truer in color to the first two pictures (light grey with a slight blue undertone). It is a beautiful product! I would definitely encourage you to get a sample so you can see the color in person and match it with the finishes in your space. Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. .... So it would appear as though they are the same time... Time to order a sample. :) -OCJeff

So has anyone seen pictures of alternatives besides a entire row of an accent tile? We have a 15 foot run that is very horizontal in nature, and I'm not that fond of having yet another horizontal line. But I REALLY would like an accent of some sort besides what is going over the stovetop in the middle. I was at the tile store today, and 1 of the employees suggested randomly dropping a skinny row of mosiac between the subway tiles. We were looking at a noce 3x6, plus a polished scabos (matches granite well, and I don't like glass) mosiac. Interjecting the mosiac seems to really go against the spirit of doing a subway, but it could give an accent. So is this mission impossible, and I should look at a more conventional tile pattern? Any other ideas?

I have the Subway Ceramics Avalon / Minas with a medium gray grout. And a Shaw's white sink, if anyone is considering that, by the way. (My contractor could have ordered it directly, but at his request, I went through a tile store, and by the time everyone had put their sugar onto it, it was OBSCENELY expensive.) I'm not an installation expert, but at least with the Subway Ceramics, the installers use little plastic spacers between the tiles (I think some others have their own spacers?) when they put them up, they don't do it freehand, so how much grout you get is a function of 1) the limits set by the curvature of the tile and 2) what size spacers they use. So you might be willing to go a little darker with a smaller grout line, or with a handmade tile that refuses to go close together, you might want to stay light. The traditional color is close to concrete. But most modern people don't seem to like that, so do what pleases you!

Bluekit: I do not have pics now, but will snap some this weekend. The 1 inch blue subway glass tiles (from Artistic Tile) are pretty cool. It is a 3 inch wide accent that goes right under the tile line (mid-wall) under the cap.

tiger-- are you using the Opera Glass? I just installed a band of 1x2" glass tiles in Puccini Purple with my calacatta marble field tiles. I love them! Using Bill's recommendation, we used Laticrete's Silver Shadow on the marble and the glass, and it looks great. Especially because it's a "cold gray" rather than a warm gray. My guess is that Platinum will have a similar effect. Looking forward to seeing your pics, and I will try to get some up soon too.

Hi Callie. Yes, it is the Royal Opera Glass (1x2), in a 3 inch band. The subway is Dover White. The floor is Penny Round.

Another bathroom we are doing all Bianco Carrera (subway on wall, hexagon on floor).

Another bathroom we are using same subway Dover White on walls (but installed vertically) with hexagon floor.

Carrera marble small hexagon on the floor, subway (3 x 6) on the walls, and large scale (12 x 12) in shower. Use Custom Building "Platinum" grout here? Thanks for your help!
