Finished white/marble bathroom
Comments (24)Hi positano My tile installer used Aqua Mix in the bathroom. We used the Premium Gold on the Danby Marble in the kitchen. But shortly after the tile guy decided to put on an extra coat of Aqua Mix because we were using a dark grout on the backsplash and he wanted to be really sure that it would not stain the marble. My tile guy likes the Aqua Mix. I wonder if there is really that much difference among them. I think the key is to be careful and periodically re-seal....See MoreBathroom Remodel- White Subway and Carrara Marble
Comments (28)anne7- the double vanity is 64' wide. That was the biggest we could fit in the space we had. It gave us a bit more counter space in between sinks than a standard 60' would have. I wish it had been made with wider drawers though. I modeled it after one I found on pottery barn that had similar inset doors and hardware. You are right, there is no tub:( There just wasn't space. island- the floor tiles are Jeffrey Court iceberg marble polished (90019 They are from the Cap.9- Pietra Opus II series and are 4 x 8. The shower stall is just over 5'. I had the mirrors made at a local frame shop. I had shopped around for white mirrors that I liked and just couldn't find something simple and yet substantial so I had them made. It is just a 20" x 24" beveled mirror with a 2" frame all the way around. We don't have medicine cabinets. I decided to forgo the cabinets because I had extra storage with the double vanity (we used to have only a single) and because I was afraid we would drop things on the marble. We have had more than enough space so far. Paint is Benjamin Moore- Marilyn's Dress. Trim is just a white bathroom paint that we had laying around. Shower bench, threshold, and the tops of the half walls are all white corian. We had the window shutter installed. It is the faux wood with the standard white finish. I had read that real wood may be more prone to warping in a bathroom. Thanks for the kind words. I am going to post some pictures of my kitchen on the kitchen board. We updated it about 2 years ago....See MoreFinished Marble Parlor Bathroom
Comments (37)Eastgate - Both bathrooms are 5 feet deep. The ceramic tiled bathroom is just over 7 feet wide. It works but I wouldn't necessarily suggest the size if you weren't confined by it already. I didn't want to have to give up bedroom space to make it bigger so it stayed. The small sink that we kept helped us keep everything in scale. Even a small vanity or pedestal sink would have taken up too much room. The marble bathroom is 5x9 if I remember correctly. Its a lot more spacious. Two feet really makes a difference. jejvtr - The house was built around between 1905-1910 - we're not sure since we don't have any original records. The beams were all okay but the cement under the tiles in all the bathrooms had to be redone. The subway tile we used is just basic cheapo subway tile - not the authentic reproduction totally flat type. Thats the one I wanted but at 15x the price, I simply couldn't bring myself to spend so much money on it. Now thats its all installed, Im glad I didn't and put my money into other things. We took the original tile from this bathroom and salvaged what we could for our kitchen backsplash. One of those details no one but us would know but its nice to know the tiles that were in the bathroom that could be saved got reused elsewhere. We actually did 5 bathrooms but one is in the downstairs rental and one is a half bath in the basement. Both nothing to write home about stylistically. These three are in my home so those are the ones I spent the time on. Thanks!...See MoreBathroom Reveal, Thanks to the Bathroom and Remodel Forums! (pic
Comments (56)This old thread got revisited. @dani_m08 to answer the question about extra probe, I believe I ordered an extra one when I bought the set up. The probe wire is just setting in the junction box I think but honestly I cant remember. When I laid out the underfloor heating and the probe, I just ran another probe near the first probe, and it was then sealed into the floor self leveling compound as per instructions. then the end was just threaded into the wall like the one that would be live, and not connected, but just laying there in the box. Regarding the tile layout. I just decided to run it this way, after getting instructions on the 90Degree way, IIRC. The herringbone that I love is from my childhood and the side walks in my neighborhood that all ran at 45Degree. so that to me is herringbone. I know you posted on @sochi thread about her amazing bathroom and a wall mounted faucet. I would totally do it if I had the right sink for it. In my case I had made my sink out of soapstone and an integrated backsplash. The pictures of this bathroom reveal are no longer available because of the use of photo bucket, when it was Gardenweb. I did not keep my account with photo bucket. I'll add some of the reveal pictures so you can see the sink and floor. Regarding the sink there is no ledge for water to drip from my hands when using the faucet. The water drips right into the sink. In my other bathroom with a deck mounted faucet I am always wiping up drips and it is a nuisance. I much prefer the setup for this sink. Below: I love the flush finish from the faucet to the bottom of the sink. nothing drips on a counter or edge of a sink. Below: looking in from the doorway. Below: Here I am finishing up the sink. the backsplash was epoxied on as a separate piece. The whole soapstone install in the room took next to nothing to buy as they were all small pieces that I epoxied together with a 3 part stone epoxy. Below: this is the counter at the tub, and is in 2 long pieces but I was able to epoxy them together at there edges to make a wide slab for the top. All the soapstone was finished with a 60 grit sandpaper to be rough and this lovely soft tone of blue/green/gray/white. I did not oil it so this color tone would remain light. Below: If I recall correctly @sochi helped me decide on this Hubberton Forge Mirror. I have 3 different metals in this room, but they are all a cool silver to black color. Below: the center of this tower shares space with the kitchen on the other side of the wall. there is also some extra space that houses some electrical wiring. this is an old simple house. this bathroom was an add on when it got move to the farm in the 30s IIRC. The plumbing was all rearrange and some of the details that were orignially there I kept but updated it, such as this tower feature. The old one went and the carpenter did a wonderful job with this one. Below: This feature was another thing I kept from the old bathroom but flipped it from the other end and had the carpenter put drawers in it. Before it was a hell hole. things got lost and the build was soooo old and creapy I didn't like using it for storage. Now it is perfect for storage....See Moregr8daygw
