Spybot Search & Destroy Immunize Question.

I went into Immunize in Spybot Search & Destroy version 1.5.2.20 and found Firefox, Internet Explorer and Mozilla. There are checkmarks Under Profile: (Firefox) Profile (Mozilla). I have neither one of these browsers installed but it is showing my old email address, what is unprotected and Protected then Total. All are protected, now my question is why is my old email address listed instead of my new email address? Why is it even listed at all? Under Internet Explorer (32 bit), it has SOFTWARE (Cookies). SOFTWARE (Domains). SOFTWARE (IPs) SOFTWARE (Plugins).

I didn't list all of the numbers because I didn't think it was necessary, but it shows everything is Protected. Still I wonder why my old email address is showing up under Firefox and Mozilla. Does anyone know? I would have thought my new email address should have been there instead. What's up with this? I think I repeated myself sorry. This is hard for me to explain, hope I have it right.

I just ran that program and looked around to try to figure out what you are saying. It was sitting there finished running waiting on me when I woke up.

Nowhere in it can I find my email address's. It does show cookies which are written 'mike@gardenweb.com, mike@verizon.com, etc ... none of which are my email address. My computer user account/login is mike, which is where that name on each cookie came from.

I dont show any firefox probably because its never been written into my registry as I've never installed it on this install of windows.

If I had in the past installed a firefox and uninstalled it... it sounds like it would have left keys in the registry then I suspect SpybotSD would want to list it as protected too and write a whole bunch of unnecccessary keys blocking a whole bunch of urls under its main configuration keys.

If that makes any sense and answers any of your questions... great!

Mikie, I am quite sure they will fix your repoerted concern as Safer Networking Limited has historically been very responsible in fixing bugs. Howevr, there timeliness can cause some frustration. SNL knew about the slow starting as I referred to earlier. In fact, on their homepage where they announce v1.5.2 they apologize for it. It just took them quite a while to resolve the concern. Rita, Please rethink your position on CCleaner. It's fast and user friendly. Just use it with its default settings. The only people I hear having concerns are those who tinker with the original configuration. It is quite similar to the old Win 98 compatible CleanUp. If you do use the registry feature, it offers an options of saving anything a user delets. DA

I STRONGLY recommend that you use a program called Spybot Search and Destroy, from safer-networking.org AdAware is not bad, but it misses a lot of spyware programs and has no way of protecting you before the junk installs on your computer. Spybot has a feature they call "immunization" which blocks over 50,000 (and counting) programs from ever getting through Internet Explorer in the first place (sorry, Firefox users). I clean PCs for a living, and use Spybot regularly. Read their tutorial after you download the program to be sure you're using it correctly. Here is a link that might be useful: Download Spybot

Hi ravencajun, When the old AdAware went down I had no idea where to go, it all was so confusing to me, so I decided to put the new AdAware in to see how it would do. It has done well up until now and this is the first time that I have had compatiblity Issues with Spybot Search And Destroy. I have had AdAware several months now. This is really odd, cause I would have thought there would have been problems before now. Do I just take AdAware out using Add/Remove Programs? Will that get it all out? How is the install for superantispyware, is it hard to download or is it a simple install? What is your personal opinion of superantispyware? Pros & Cons. If you don't mind doing that for me? I just installed Spybot with the download file spybotsd160.exe. When Spybot loads, I see the following: -- Slugmeter labeled "Loading Spybot" -- "Legal stuff" message box: "If you remove advertisement robots with this program, you may not be allowed..." -- "Confirm" message box: "Spybot - Search & Destroy has detected that you have the following products installed: Lavasoft AdAware. This may cause incompatibilites; for more information, click Yes to visit our website, Ignore to no longer show this warning, or just Cancel." Here's the text from the website: "Compatibility: If you have the AdAware option to scan inside archives enabled, AdAware may find files in the Spybot-S&D folder. Spybot-S&D does not contain any spyware, but it creates backups of everything you fix (until you remove those backups from the Recovery list), and AdAware complains about these backups.
