What's the size of your hole? There are some small CD fridges, but they tend to be TALLer than the standards.

You might check out LG's little refrigerator. It's 24 deep and 24 wide and not any taller than standard. It's not terribly expensive either--certainly under a thousand, maybe closer to $500. But I'm confused by your statement that you can't just get a smaller fridge. So maybe this doesn't help?

samsung has one that is 32" wide, and about 27" deep with door, or 24" deep to the edge of the door. It's almost 18.8 cubic feet, bottom freezer and not too tall.(also about $800.) There are true counter dept free standing refrigerators like the L.G. mentioned above, or the Summit CP171 (24x24x 80 tall) and then the Liebherr's 24 and 30 inch wide also about 80" tall.

How much room do you have from fridge to opposite wall? I have a small laundry with a W/d and a fridge that stick out. The area in front of the appliances is 32-33" and the single door fridge is 33" wide. Not a lot of wiggle room. We're looking at changing it to a counter depth.

I don't see why this is a cubic foot question. I think it's more a question of making sure you have room for a fridge -- and not just one model, but enough room to have some options now and down the road and room to walk even when your arms are carrying a load. If it isn't right, have them fix it now.

I should have been more clear on my initial post. The drywalled opening is 24" deep, 32" wide and wide open to the ceiling, which is 9'. The LG would work, though it's considerably smaller than the 18.2 Frigidaire (depth including door and handle is 32 1/8")that the designer ordered. The issue is this fridge will protrude into the room by about 8", right next to a hallway that leads from the laundry room to the kitchen. I was just hoping to find any fridge that was closer to counter depth without breaking the bank. Someone suggested an all refrigerator model by Frigidaire, which is 28 5/8" deep.

Liebherr makes a cute (and TALL) 30" fridge that is a very flush 30" wide. Did you want something with a freezer?

Oh, the not breaking the bank part...missed that! But I agree you really do need a counter depth one. Counter depth will necessarily have quite a bit less capacity than standard depth though. If you really need the capacity, you might want to see what it would take to knock a hole in the wall and recess your fridge.

Did you look at Fisher/Paykel? Though it isn't advertised as counter depth it is Width: 31 1/8"
Depth w/o Handles: 27" (The handle is a neat, not deep squared off handle) Height: 66 15/16" and it doesn't break the bank.

The Samsong is pretty close, 32" wide and the body will be flush, at 24 3/8", only the door will stick out. Not as neat as the 30" Liebherr, but much better than the little LG. It also is available with a 'stainless' front door.

I think the key is to look at counter-depth refrigerators vs built-ins. The built-ins are very expensive; but there are quiet a few (KA and GE to name a couple) refrigerators which are free-standing counter depth and not too costly. There is also a fridge which is 24" deep and about 24" wide which I have seen which is not too costly. Let me know if you are interested and I will try to get the manufacturer for you.

If the fridge sticking out is driving you crazy now, just wait a couple of months - you'll be cursing the appliance/kd for years to come. Get the right fridge for your space now.
