Windows Word in Task Bar?

I noticed that my background processes used to be about 4%, well I just checked them and they are running at 56%!!!!

I did an End Process for WindowsWord.exe (owner)(or something close to that...I can't be sure becasue now its gone).

I was so alarmed I even went searching for it in MSCONFIG and couldn't find it.

What is Windows Word doing in my taskbar? And how do I get it out? Is that for Messenger that I don't use?

Geez I'm uspset about this. I suppose I need reg cleaner or whatever it is.

Good Golly Miss Molly, what a burden on my computer.

What is clean boot? (Gamers suggested it for a paging file that was too large).

Will it help?

You need to be careful about clicking on - End processes- in Task Manager. Do a search first.
The Registery Cleaners can do you a lot of harm. If you need one try CCleaner

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. In the right-pane, Userinit should read C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe, If it has been set to wsupdater.exe, and not userinit.exe, You'll have to right click Userinit and modify and change to C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe, Don't forget the comma at the end.

Sapphires, If your taskbar is locked, what they call the "Sizing Handles" disappear. To make them reappear, move your cursor to the clock, right-click, and remove the check from "Lock the Taskbar." Once that is done, you should see the sizing handles. Move your cursor to the sizing handle you want to move and when your cursor changes into a double-headed arrow, hold down your left-mouse button and drag the sizing handle to where you want it. When finished moving them, go back to the clock, right-click and put a check back in "Lock the Taskbar." HTH Terry

You would probably eliminate the problem, by going down to the version of firefox, you had before upgrading. Your system is older, and some of the requirements for the newer version of firefox, you just may not have on that computer. :-)) I also run XP, and I use firefox. I am running version 9.0 and it works perfectly. I could go a couple updates higher, but, when something is working great, best not to mess with it, especially on an older system. Also, notice above recommendations to update your IE. You should be aware, that some XP computers will not run IE8 very well, and some will. Most will run ie7 without any problems. Please check all system requirements when you decide to update or download something on a system that is using XP and enjoy using that computer for a long time yet. Good Luck to you.

Owner End Process with the task manager only "Ends Process" during that sesssion. Upon rebooting all your processes are back ... even "End Process" ed ones.

Microsoft Word does not belong in my Task Bar. It uses 55% of CPU upon start up. No wonder we were gettin' hot.

How do I get it out of my Task Bar? and How did it get in there?

Owner 'End Process' es are fairly benign and most gamers turn them of except the task bar itself and IE while playing, its even on the directions of most PC games...for enhancesd performance... etc.

The entire word program is running!!...55% of a 3.2GHz CPU (certainly isn't the fastest) at startup is going to word without me turning it on, that is ridiculous!

I always have mine in my task bar. Mine runs at 1%-4%. Have you tried to right click and delete. That will delete the program icon from your task bar. Then check your CPU usage.

It has no icon. I can't find it MSCONFIG. Maybe I should do a clean boot at Microsoft...whatever that is. I don't why the program is running at full tilt. I "END PROCESS" again at startup.

Maybe it has to with some of those Office Beta Programs I tried...you'd think I'd learn?

Martha, I use Word throughout the day for work. I have the Icon on my Taskbar, but my CPU usage is 2% with FF running, AOL Radio running, and Word on the screen.
Something else must be going on.

I End Process for WINWORD.EXE and my background processes drop by as much as 55%, I agree with you...this is BS. Something is definitely amiss. My background never went beyond 4 or 5% as they are supposed to be from back in the 'good old days'. I don't know even how long this has been going on. I just haven't bothered to check. Maybe 6 months or more. I don't know. I probably should check for root kits and everything else.

Not sure if this is it Marf but...... Click Start/All programs/Startup and see if Office or Word are there. If so delete it so it does not start along with the computer. All these programmers feel they have the most important programs that need to start instantly.

I have my Office icons in my Quick Launch bar at the bottom
