External hard drive almost full?

I have a Western Digital 320GB "my Book Essential". It shows that I have only 58GB free out of 298GB capacity (298GB used).

My question is what do I do from here when it is be totally full?

1. Get a new one and keep this one on a shelf as a safety back up?

2. Somehow reset this one to erase everything on it and start fresh?

3. Do some unknown thing that I have no idea of because I am almost totally computer illiterate as shown by my number 1 and 2 suggestion.

As always thanks in advance for your knowledge and time.
