Why can't I get to certain sites/pages?

Starting a few days ago, I've been unable to function on eBay (I can get to eBay.com, but not my member page, plus I can't do any of the usual things like bid or leave feedback) and I can't access my Gmail account. I'm using Explorer 7. The screen reads Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

I contacted eBay, and they instructed me to add eBay to my list of Trusted Sites. I did, but it didn't help.

I tried logging in to eBay on a friend's computer, and it worked just fine. Everything functioned normally. I didn't have a chance to try Gmail.

Any idea what the problem could be?

IE7... How long have you been using it?
Turn your phishing filter off. IE7 menu bar -> Tools -> Phishing Filter.

Set your security on medium IE7 menu bar -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> custom Level -> Reset to medium (pull down menu near the bottom)

Make sure you are running only one firewall.

Sometimes just refreshing the page works.

Thanks, Martha. I tried both suggestions, but no change. Not sure exactly I've been using IE7...a couple of months, maybe?

I'll be interested to see if the problem exists on my other computer. I can't tell at the moment because it needs a new monitor.

Since posting the first time, I discovered that I can't open the comments to one of my blogs and I can't open the log-in screen that will let me download archived articles on a newspaper website. This is getting very irritating!

I'll go see if Microsoft has some sort of help forum...

Michael, I don't know if this is the same problem you have - but once in a while I have an Interet Explorer page that will not close - it freezes. This started when I went to IE7. Often, it will do it if I follow a page link from an e-mail. I can close the window by holding down the CTRL-ALT-DEL keys all at the same time to bring up my TASK MANAGER. Under PROCESSES - I can close Internet Explorer - select Internet Explorer, then END TASK. It will close all IE windows - even the frozen one. Doesn't solve your problem, but you don't have to log off to close the window.

I have had the printer hooked up to the same computer for a couple years now. I uploaded new drivers for the printer wiht no help printing from a site. I have a Hp Photo Smart C4740. I haven't made any changes to anyhting . Yes, it is the default printer. I only go to HP and Microsoft and check for updates. I can't get it to print anything from any site I am on that I want to print an article from. I get Massage from Web Page- there was an internal error and IE is unabl;e to print this document. I tried again after I updated the drivers in my printer and got this again.

When I experience some goofy unexplained problem I first go back to a method left over from my main frame experiences -- power down and briefly unplug the bugger. It is surprising to me how many glitches respond to this. (BTW, I have also used this to solve a newer TV problem once and I have a very old TV that must be unplugged every time it is used.)

Patience is not one of my strong suits. I do see that I am able to go to the main page where this article is started. What I want is when I send an article to someone I want them to get the article, just as I'm reading it, not to have to find it on the page they are re-directed to....... Here's what I am presented with: No results found for http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews/ci_7732781?nclick_check=1#. However, there are results from websites with similar addresses: San Jose Mercury News - Breaking News Expanded breaking news for the Bay Area from the San Jose Mercury News. www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews - 79k - 18 hours ago - Cached - Similar pages - Note this When this happens with other links I don't remember seeing any choice, just "No results found." Could you explain these statements you made? so are you cookie enabled for that site ? Also there are sometimes security settings. to not allow certain redirects which an add on toolbar might be enforcing. Thanks so much for your help!! Ginny

It almost sounds as if you have a damaged IE7. Microsoft is a pain when it comes to making repairs.

Probably Uninstall IE7 through your add/remove programs. That will automatically give you IE6. Then you can go to Microsoft and re-download and install IE7. Make sure your security is not running during the download and installation, that might help.

I hope it isn't a HD failure...it happens. Bits and pieces of programs tend to go out until everything goes down. If its only IE7 that is amiss, then its IE7 and not your HD.

Well, I guess I'm lucky Â I downloaded Firefox and have no problem getting to all sites that way. I'll try the uninstall, etc., tomorrow.
