Why can't I get Spinach to germinate??!!?
Comments (33)There have been a lot of studies on spinach germination. It has been found that the "NaOCl/H2O2 method" ensures almost complete and prompt germination. Complete and prompt germination is a major marketing benefit. You can look up that method. Papers online. Seems to work in many kinds of seeds. I have not tried it, but next time I do seeds that don't like to germinate, I'll be trying it. "NaOCl/H2O2 method" is defined as - 4 hour soak in 0.5% NaOCl, followed by water soak for 15 hours, followed by sowing in 0.3% H2O2. You need the water soak to completely get rid of the NaOCl, which interferes with seedling growth. Shake it! Laundry bleach (e.g. Clorox) is 5% NaOCl. Topical antiseptic hydrogen peroxide is 3% H2O2. So we're talking 10:1 dilution of each. FWIW, the NaOCl also sterilizes the seeds, so they don't carry bad bacteria. It is said that NaOCl neutralizes germination inhibitors in the seed coat. H2O2 actually helps break down the seed coat, but does not interfere with seedling growth. I've heard that mild acid baths also help break down the seed coat....See MoreWhy can't I get a good haircut???
Comments (11)Aw it's awful when you don't feel comfortable with the cut you get. You're doing everything right. It's taken me a long time to find someone I trust, and even now sometimes when she tries something new I may not feel right with it until it grows out a bit. They never blow it dry quite the way I can, and it just looks and feels awful when they do it. In the summer I run back home with my hair wet to style it myself! Anyway, the cut is good, and here's what I've done. Bring a few pictures you like, preferably of someone with your similar shape face and hair texture. Then just talk for a while with your stylist about what you like about the cut(s) AND what you DON'T like about some of them. I will bring some pics of women with slight layers that I like and say I love how this looks here, but here is a similar pic with shorter layers and I hate how it looks over her ears, the inversion in the back wedge is too severe for my liking, etc. This will help your stylist to see what you are shooting for. Then she will talk to you about what she thinks is correct for your face and show with her hands how short or where the layering will start or why, etc. Good luck! I think they KEY is to show what you like AND what you do not like....See MoreWhy can't I get the paint to crackle?
Comments (2)I use regular white glue all of the time, never have a problem. I usually paint on the base coat, let dry completely, paint on a coat of glue, let dry completely, paint the top coat, and it always crackles no matter what surface I have done it on, and I have even done it on paper bags. You have to let the glue dry completley. It doesn't matter how thick. The width of the cracks are determined by how thick the top part is, and you can't go back and forth with top coat. just put one brush stroke on and let it do its' thing! LOL! Good luck. Maybe you are fussing too much. Let the glue and paint do it for you!...See MoreUgh! Why can't I make up my mind?
Comments (12)All good advice. I just wasn't ready to shop for a new master bedroom set since we have plans to redo our masterbath and likely will recarpet etc the master bedroom but not right away. I bought a very nice quality set and it has stood the test of time. @LES917: I am in love with Walter E Smithe. Haven't been there in years. I really walked around saying I like that and that and that. My husband went too and appreciated being able to see and sit and touch and feel which we hadn't been able to do with a decorator. Turned out the man who helped us with the store general manager and senior designer. You get special treatment when you show up at 10am on a Monday morning. The store was ours. @karinl: yes, it isn't a matter of the money really this time it is what to do, and do ONCE. I think I am just tired of looking at the guest room waiting for me to finish it. It's been painted and crown molding installed since April. I will admit I prefer the bedroom pieces to match. Nowerdays even within the same collection there are variations in pieces. I don't want to spend time coordinating things from this or that collection. I am old school I guess (even at 41!)....See More- 17 years agolast modified: 11 years ago
