Avast Help Please

I have Avast Free downloaded on my computer. About three days ago a little shield with a "Red X" appeared at the bottom of my screen. It is Microsoft Security. It says my Virus security is out of date. I up-dated Avast and the Red X shield is still there. Am I protected? what else do I do? Regards in Advance, P. in La.

Did you right click on the Avast grey ball near the clock and then click to update in the pop up? Perhaps the last update failed.

are you positive it is the microsoft shield? because the dreaded infection of antivirus xp fakes the MS shield and does appear down there telling you your antivirus is out of date.
If you do not have malwarebytes go get it and update it and run full scan and lets see what we find.
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

AVAST has always done that it tells you in the install directions that you will need to click the register button and it will email you the code number which you just enter into your AVAST program super easy, it last about a year then you just do it again and get a number and it is good for another year. Never had it ask me to buy anything or email me anything other than my code. Free registration see right on the front page where you down load it are the directions and how to do it. Plus on the left side there are the 2 pdf files I suggest everyone read or print to have handy, it gives all the info on how to set up AVAST and how to use features including the screensaver scan feature.

The most modern, safe, and secure, and very definately superior and it's, lemme see, oh yeah....free A much better deal much more secure than any MSFT OS and software that you can buy, which BTW you can not under any circumstances even put an MSFT OS you BOUGHT & PAID FOR on any except the >>>one PC What the heck... it's free, it's easy.... and it's damn sure secure......If it's good enough for the National Security Agency to base its own systems and software on, you reckon maybe it's good enough for you too? Oh yeah.... and the SecurityEnhancedLinux packages are so secure that the NSA has released, and released for free too, all the SEL code and software into the public domain, and released it all free of charge too...something that all yer friends in Redmond were hoping would have never happened.... Hope you found this somewhat useful..... Oh yeah, and if you like a particular distribution, you can even make 1,000,000 copies and give them all away, should that be your desire. More and more distro's are even including software so that you can "customize" a distro to your liking and then make a million copies of your newly modified OS, and give away the resulting OS/software package, with your name on it even if that's what you want to do with it........You should give Redmond a call and ask about doing that with an MSFT issued OS... you can not schedule a scan with Avast like you do some other programs, but the easy way to have it scan is to set the screen saver scan, anytime the screen saver is on the scan starts, it stops when you move the mouse then restarts where it left off when the screen saver starts again, that is how I use mine, if you go to the Avast site there are 2 pdf guides that you should read on how to use Avast and set up your scans and also to choose to do the boot scan or not. Adobe Acrobat (PDF) Document How to Install, Configure, and Use Avast Antivirus an excellent guide that answers most questions. It is not a good idea to keep your pc turned off and disconnected from the internet, when you get on it and connect you then are way behind in updates not only for your antivirus but for windows.

I have Malware, did a full scan, found nothing, did an up-date of avast again, re-booted and now the shield with the red X is GONE. Thanks to all of you for this advice. P.K. in La. ps. Raven, the crawfish are running, but kinda scarce. Our neighbor is trapping about 200 lbs. a day, but alas, he has sold them all.

OH man now you went and did it LOL I have been just craving some crawfish bad. I had the opportunity to buy some and do a boil here at the house but we are in the process of preparing for a move and I had to pass. I am very jealous!! We did have some really nice size ones when I was down there for Christmas boy they were good! Think of me when you have a big pile of them.
