Tub issue...looking for any help

The original tub I removed from a 2nd floor bathroom was 60"x30"x14"...which means all the plubing is 15" from the studs (to be 1/2 way of 30"). The new tub I am looking at is the Toto 1525LP (60x32x16), which means I would have to move the plumbing over another 1" (to make it 16" from the wall).

The problem: I really really don't want to cut into the ceiling below to move the plumbing an 1". However, I do recognize that the Toto is a solid choice for a tub.

Option 1: Cut into the ceiling from the 1st floor, and move the plumbing. And given the way the joists run, I would have to make the holes in them a little larger..which adds to the fun.

Option 2: Look for a tub that is just as good as the Toto, but has a 30" width, with a 16" height.

This isn't our Master bath and we are trying to stay on budget. I choose the Toto based upon reading the forums here and really am looking for a 16" height tub. I am willing to move the overflow PVC as that doesn't require cutting into the ceiling of the 1st floor.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Manufacturers only make things that they can sell. If they made a 58" tub they might only sell one, and that would be to your. If you cannot use a 60" tub, the next smaller commercial one is 54". Hm, I had been wondering if you'd taken the past surround *down* or just put the new surround over it. If you've *taken it down* and you didn't see any rot behind the sheetrock when you removed it, then I'd venture to say that you're safe. There was *no* black or otherwise unpleasant anything where the low point was? Checking downstairs will eliminate the other one possibility, which would be that the rot went straight down and didn't communicate upwards at all into anything you removed. Which would be odd, but I guess possible. Maybe you just had *really good* sealing. We don't.

My bath tub is located under an arch (three walls). The bath tub measures 64 inches for one side of the arch to the other side of the arch. I am thinking it is a 66 inch bath tub embedded into the arch itself. They don't make 64 inch bath tubs. I wondering how I can find out the true size of my current bath tub so that I can purchase the right size tub. Any ideas?

My tub was from 1999 so way worse! Yours does not look bad! I updated 3 years ago to a free standing tub and love it! You will have to replace flooring though since it will show on a free standing tub. You will also have to fix the walls where the tile was. We did a total master bath remodel. My recommendations would be to go to a large bath/kitchen showroom and sit in some tubs to see how you like them! Also to figure out the size you want. Most run very large. I am only 5'2" so didn't want a 7' tub where I would just float around in! Mine is 5 feet I think and its perfect.
