bought a mini netbook

Purcdhased a MSI Wind 100 netbook - 2 GB Ram, 6 cell battery, 80 GB hard drive.

Had it set up on two drives - one with Win XP with all programs etc. installed there. Other with Windows 7 Beta, so I can play and learn the new OS.

I have Avast installed as my antivirus on C drive XP.....when I pull up D drive Win 7 - there is no antivirus at all running - so does that mean I should install it again on D drive before I pick up a virus? Just planning to investigate the new system and surf the web, but don't want problems. Trying to wrap my mind around having two drives to fool with.

You not only have two drives, you have two operating systems. If you want the AV running in both, you need to install it in both.

Thank you for the response....I figure I better have an anti virus running on both. By the way - just found out it's a 160 GB hard drive - the extra space is on drive F. I'll get the thing figured out! Good start to make sure I have anti virus program running though.

Maureen, have you gotten your minis yet?? Please update us. I placed an order for five with BB last weekend and am anxiously awaiting mine. Last year, I bought four from her, but the evil powdery mildew got all but one (I thought I was being so careful... I think I need a fan in my office). I've just sterilized all of my pots (little blue bonsai pots with which I wick-water) in anticipation of their arrival. Yay! Korina, you crack me up -- I was happy to "see" you over on the begonia board today -- I have a begonia at my office with my AVs, and just bought three more (uh oh) gorgeous NOID begonias for home, so I was researching a potting medium for them. Sounds like I can use my sphag-perlite-vermiculite AV mix for the begonias, too... also, off-topic, how do you like the SciFi channel's Doctor Who? (It's my first exposure, though I've heard of the show before...I find him kind of cute!). Anyway, posts from you always make me laugh, so it was neat to "run into" you over on the begonia board. But really, Maureen, this is your thread, so please let us know if you've gotten your new babies yet!!

Where did you buy it? If you bought it at a grocery store, it may well be one of the Parade series of mini roses developed by Poulsen. The plastic pot it came in may have a small, hard-to-see marking with the name or code name.

Yes probably but you'll have to be able to boot , probably,from the flash drive. Check on ebay to see if anyone sells a backup disc, look at their feedback , and what else they sell. If they seem to be adequately informed ask them the same Q and then buy something from them. Consider buying the entire memory module from them for $12. They might have one lying around and glad to get rid of it plus the backup program you want. Other than that googl the actual model ..and look for forums other than this one. The Q. , especially for a newer computer, is a bit too high tech for what I've seen on GWeb. But don't give up. Share what you learn here and maybe you'll improve GW's people's memory and get to your answer faster. Good luck. If you're prompted for the backup why not try it out and tell us what you find out.

I have a acer netbook that came with McAfee trial installed I am using it for now but will change over to Avast free antivirus which is my preferred AV, for malware I use the free malwarebytes and free superantispyware they are both excellent. I also use spywareblaster free which just requires a weekly update and to enable all protection no scans with it. I do weekly updates and scans with the 2 malware programs and have my avast set to do scanning with the screen saver. If you need links for any of those just ask. as to the mouse click problem that sounds like a problem and I would address that with the manufacturer since it is brand new. I personally can not use the touch pad so I just use my mini usb mouse with my acer and it is much easier.

you have 2 actual hard drives with different OS on each or do you have one hard drive with it split into 2 partitions with different OS on each?? I did not think those little net books could hold 2 separate hard drives.

Just make sure what ever AV you choose is windows 7 compatible.

Undoubtedly a single drive with two partitions. My 18" is the same thing

You're right - it's a single drive.....but divided 3 ways. Sorry to confuse you. I'm learning.

yes they are both totally independent of each other so each partition has to have it's own programs installed. Just watch out with 7 that programs are compatible with it. You can go to some of the windows 7 team sites and blogs they discuss programs they have tried that work or don't. That is actually a smart move to have the partition with 7 on it that way as soon as it goes public you have a partition ready to install the public release to because it will not be an upgrade from XP for those it will have to be a wipe clean and full install of 7.
