Secure Browsers?

According to Secunia PSI three of the four browsers I have installed are insecure. Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3.6, Opera 10.5 are all listed as insecure with nothing to make them secure. Only Chrome is shown as secure. Has anyone else noticed this, and if so, any comments.

I have started using Chrome as my default browser, and with all the extensions available, it can be customized as much as you wish. I am beginning to like it more and more, and this from a diehard Opera user.

Knowing you for as long as I have I am confident all three of the aforementioned browsers are current with up-to-date fixes. So according Secunia what is a user suppose to believe and do?

As I have reported before, I personally feel Secunia creates more problems than it resolves.

All browsers are insecure, so there is no substitute for having up-to-date anti-virus, doing malware scans regularly with other software, being cautious when opening email messages from unknown sources, and being careful about the Internet neighborhoods you frequent.

never never never open a pdf in your email or in a browser window, instead always save it to your hard drive and scan it with everything you have before you open it, this is one of the ways they are spreading some of the very bad infections these days. I have a great add-on in my firefox that always pops up and asks me what I want to do with a pdf should I happen to click on one accidentally or go to a site that wants to try to open one automatically. PDF Download :: Add-ons for Firefox Keep running your malwarebytes updated full scan for a few days to make sure you have all the remnants, usually they leave bits behind. Firefox has an add on that will allow you to use the IE engine. If one insists on using a browser that skimps on features, I would try the add on, if you visit websites that require the IE engine. Firefox Tuning Rise up the speed of your Firefox Browser: Open the configuration menu by typing in the following into the field where you normally fill in the URLs: About:config In the config menu you have to set up the following changes: - network.http.pipelining (put "true") - network.http.proxy.pipelining (put "true") - network.http.pipelining.maxrequests put on 100 - network.http.max-connections 48 - network.http.max-connections-per-server 16 - network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy 8 - network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server 4 You save the changes by clicking the right button of your mouse somewhere on the screen and choose new -> integer from the menu. Now you have to write nglayout.initialpaint.delay into the popup and type in number 0 into the next window. ThatÂ´s it, now you are able to surf the internet much faster with your Firefox browser! I use Avant. Great features.

I went to and read the "linux.oneandoneis2.org" site, and.... gee, don't take it too personal, but, what a crock of s^^^.... It really doesn't have much to offer, other than to act as some sort of a mouth piece for a large proprietary OS systems vendor, there is very, very little useful to offer there.... Dang Zep, have you ever actually installed and/or used a Linux variant in the past say....year and a half, maybe?? Or even ever? I've been using Firefox since longer than I can remember, and a beta version has never been pushed to me. Auto-updates to release versions, yes. Beta versions, no (I am not subscribed to the beta channel and have never been forced to it). Regards to browser security, there's a newly discovered vulnerability in the SSLv3 protocol -- POODLE is the acronym. It's a combination of browser and server. SSLv3 was superseded some while ago by TLS, but many servers are still running SSLv3 (along with TLS). A secure browser connection that starts on TLS can be tricked into downgrading to SSL 3.0 (if the connecting server still supports it), and a hacker can intercept bits of the data flow when that happens. The expectation is that SSL 3.0 will not be patched since it's considered outdated. Servers that are running it will (should) soon be reconfigured to no longer support it. Users who are running old browsers that don't support TLS will no longer be able to connect to secure sites such as online banking or shopping after servers no longer support SSLv3. The recommended defense until servers are fixed to to eliminate SSLv3 is for users to set their browser to not allow SSL 3.0 connections (minimum TLSv1). If your old browser of choice (or requirement) doesn't support TLS then you're stuck being susceptible, and will be out-of-luck when SSLv3 is fully redacted. IE6 , for example, supports TLSv1 but the option is not enabled by default, it must be manually turned on. (TLS is currently up to v3, which IE6 does not support past TLSv1.) Test your browser

I've been testing K-Meleon out for some time now, suitably impressed. Assuming Secunia weighted security is a priority, currently "Unpatched 0% (0 of 0 Secunia advisories)".
No browser will prevent keyloggers etc, keep all s/w up to date and follow kudzu9's advice.

I am not suggesting others should follow my lead, but I make it a habit not to link to any Internet site other than those with a .com, Canadian, or United Kingdom suffix. A user starts connecting to other European sites, particularly East European, Russian and former union members, and Far East Basin they are increasing their chance for a concern.

have you checked them for updates to their add ons? have you checked your java and flash to make sure they are updated?
Always restart the browser after making any changes and always reboot prior to running secunia if you have made any update changes so they do not have any old cache stored.
Try clearing your cache also on all your browsers.

Also sometimes there are known vulnerabilities that are discovered and they have not yet put out a patch for that known problem so it would show as insecure until they put out that patch to secure it secunia may be alerting for that possibility.
Secunia puts out a very informative and helpful weekly summary which I subscribe to that lets you know of all the new issues that have come up each week.

Browser and security are oxymoron's. There will never be a secure browser as long as the world is full of people looking to do bad things.

I have to chuckle at some of your comments; yes, I agree, there is no way to be completely secure on the Internet.

This is NOT apparently, a popular suggestion, but it is the best and most economical solution to such issues.
Your "security" issue is not because of the browser you choose, rather, it's primarily your choice of Operating System that brings about your problems...
I have been on line and running Opera, Netscape/Mozilla, Epiphany, K-Meleon, and at times a few others too, all at the very same time for as long as 8 months continuously without ever a shut down, reboot, disconnect or process-kill. And never a virus or a worm or a rootkit or a tracker or a logger or a trojan, never an anything.
Get a Linux distribution well suited to your usage and needs, an outgoing firewall, never sign on as "root" and you're pretty much good to go, and go, and go, and go.....

Then again, if you're really concerned about "security" and other such subjects, you can get OpenBSD and by default be about as secure as is currently known to be humanly possible....
