Yes it has been around for years, previously known as Star Office. A good free program but a rather large download.

I used it extensively and really liked it. It's probably 95% compatible with MS Office and should be good enough for most people to use as a free replacement for MS Office. There were a handful of things that didn't work quite correctly and paging was sometimes a little different, so I finally had to give up and use MS Office for files I was sharing with clients.

Works fine, and I regularly exchange documents between home and work with its Word.

Note: After you publish a document be sure to save it in the format that you want. I prefer the traditional .doc format.

DA

awesome program I use it on all my linux machines and interchange with my MS office on my windows boxes. As DA said you will have a drop down menu as to what format to save your work in and I also choose the .doc format so I can use it on both MS and Open office.

I've used it for 5 years or so. Works fine--usually.

There are some problems I have run into with Word 2007 documents, having to do with the XML format, but that's all.

I'm a programmer, and would not have even known about these problems, if not trying to do things in my professional role.
