I have Open Office...but I don't know what "Linn's" is...and I absolutely/positively do not understand the meaning of "making your own pages for stamps". I have a sinking feeling that I'm going to be sorry I asked.

I'm not using it right now but have in the past. It's an office program of the same sort as Microsoft Office. It has a module called writer which is like Word, one called Calc which is like Excel, etc. Often recommended in this forum for people who don't want to buy Microsoft Office but need a similar program.

I have it on all of my computers, it is a replacement for microsoft office. I am not familiar with what you want to use it for. You can make documents, spreadsheets, etc that you use any office suite for.
It is an excellent program and free.

There is a minor learning curve, but it is so simple even I can do it. Since I do bring work home with me on occasion I have it on my system just in case my Office Enterprise fails for some reason. You never know until you need to use it.

azinoh, I haven't thought about stamp collecting for 50 years, but I'm sure you too remember a little about it. Collectors generally placed their stamps in locations representing the stamps in printed books/binders. I had never heard of Linns either although when young I actually subscribed to a similar weekly newsletter. Anyway it looks like in the modern world, one could print their own 'stamp album' perhaps updating the needed pages yearly or perhaps specifically labeling the acquired stamps only in a notated binder(losing the depressed feeling of having mostly empty or sparsely filled pages). Sounds like a good idea to me. I don't know why one couldn't use microsoft units, but obviously it would be nice to be able to use free programs as well.

I've used OpenOffice for a few years now and it works well. The price is certainly right! ;)

I wouldn't mind switching to OpenOffice (or LibreOffice) in the future -- i.e. on my next computer -- if either of them came with a decent email client like MS Office's Outlook, which is the office program I use the most. But from what I can see, neither includes one. So that's one difference to keep in mind I guess.

When using OO my hardest thing to remember is to save an original document in .doc format rather than the default OO format of .odt.

You can either remember to use File, Save As , as your default savings step, or go to Tools, Options, Load/Save, where you can change the default file format setting to .doc.

Never took the time to tinker with it. I will do it now for future use.
