The Costco Bluestar has four burners, three of which are 15000 BTU and the last one is a 9000 BTU simmer burner. The oven does have a convection fan. There is a broiler element in the top of the oven, but I have yet to try it. And there is no warming drawer. Where our previus range had a warming draw, the Bluestar has a fixed toe-panel. The oven burner is located under the oven, where a warming drawer would otherwise be located. Another thing: the grates are cast iron, but are not really "full-motion" because the 5 inch wide space between the left burners and the right burners is occupied by a stainless-steel spacer. You can buy cast iron filler grates for about $250 direct from Bluestar, but I'm in saving mode right now. Our Costco has these ranges on the floor ready to go, but they are not available on-line at Costco.ca I agree completely with you about unneccesary electronics and other "features"! The only controls on my range are four knobs for the burners, one knob for the oven, a switch for the oven light and a switch for the convection fan.

If you have a wood floor and not a slab it is relatively simple to move a gas line. One of my clients had a slide in gas downdraft that was a real lemon and replaced it with a GE Caf� Freestanding range and we installed a conventional range hood. The slide in did mark the existing counters so you can tell there was a different range there. I would be really surprised if there was not some way to adjust the height. Who is the manufacturer?

If I am visualizing this correctly, I think that a shelf is a great idea. Whether this is a range with a back or a slide in with a level top, it should work. SS would be my first choice, easy and readily available. You also might be able to find a scrap of matching pre-fab granite either at a local yard/shop or online, if yours is one of the common granites. If you have more of your tile, you could also tile a piece of wood for the shelf and bring the wall tile down to counter level. Edited to add: Can not your plumber move the gas outlet closer to the wall? Mine was moved with little difficulty, but he had access from the basement.

So much discussion here! I looked into a kitchen designer. That does not seem to exist around here. But I will keep looking. I did talk to a business about 60 miles away, but they were only interested in selling me everything they had. No specific design services. Yes, I have become the GC for sure. I have a whole project workflow that I put together based on research. I hear you, I probably shouldn't have to do all this, but its what I have to do. @jhmarie, this is how we roll. Cabinet maker is an hour and a half away from me. He is Amish, so when all the cabinets are made I will have to pick everything up, and bring his crew over with all their tools. Going this route is a choice I made after looking at the New Point and whatever cabinets offered from a distribution center an hour away. Thanks for the info, but I should be good. Amish guy had no issues with the hood after I took it over and we talked things through. And yes, the insert is needed for sure. Broan literature has that all over the warnings. @Sophie, good info on the fire hazard, I did run across such warnings in the Broan literature and through a few other websites. Amish guy does seem to have a good grasp on the codes involved. @The Cook's Kitchen. Good advice. I got the smartest one for sure, he seems very confident in the plan, and is very helpful.
