Merry Christmas All, I just had to ask what CD's get you in the Christmas spirit. My friend who works at Universal gave me A Charlie Brown Christmas CD and it has become my fave Christmas CD. It has all the Charlie Brown classic songs. Check it out at Amazon. You'll love it besides who doesn't love Chalie Brown.

My favorite is a kenny rogers cassette tape I have had for years. (of course everyone else is sick of listening it it) I want to find it on cd.

Christmas music was always a big part of the celebration when I was growing up. Two of my favourite CD's are Bing Crosby's "Merry Christmas" (with his rendition of "White Christmas" and Jackie Gleason's "Tis the Season". (My dad had both of these on LP's) One of my new favs is Kenny G, "Miracles, The Holiday Album".

Oh yes, music can bring me to tears easily, especially a magnificent talent like Andrea Bocelli or Kiri TeKanawa. It can also bring you right back to the moment in time that reminds you of a far gone time. Memories of parents, siblings, boyfriends, pets, our kids. There are so many great artists in all our pasts and so many wonderful sounds. It's funny how we take it so for granted but imagine not being able to hear music, how sad that must be for some.

Has this discussion meant anything Frieda in whatever sense - especially if you've enjoyed it?Oh absolutely, Jan! I'm drawn to poetry discussions...well, I must be because I'm always sticking my fat head in and exposing my ignorance. Truth is I love the idea of poetry, but I am less enchanted with most poems, themselves. But occasionally I discover a new one that smacks me up the side of my head -- such as "Cold Knap Lake" at Anyanka's link above -- and it's all worth it. I may even develop a liking for Mary Oliver. :-) Now, the Keats: I seem to relate better to pre-20th century poets. I'm not sure if it's the quaint language (in the sense of being marked by beauty and elegance) or the imagery that I like best. Some 20th-century poets (don't know yet about the 21st-century ones) can pull off the feat and send me into "the light of other times" that I like best. Here's one that does just that: Her Kind I have gone out, a possessed witch, haunting the black air, braver at night; dreaming evil, I have done my hitch over the plain houses, light by light: lonely thing, twelve-fingered, out of mind. A woman like that is not a woman, quite. I have been her kind. I have found the warm caves in the woods, filled them with skillets, carvings, shelves, closets, silks, innumerable goods; fixed the suppers for the worms and the elves: whining, rearranging the disaligned. A woman like that is misunderstood. I have been her kind. I have ridden in your cart, driver, waved my nude arms at villages going by, learning the last bright routes, survivor where your flames still bite my thigh and my ribs crack where your wheels wind. I've always loved Burl Ives' singing "Silver & Gold" from the Ruduloph the Red Nose Reindeer Christmas Special. I know I have it on either cd or cassette tape in my Christmas Collection.

The Charlie Brown Christmas CD sounds really cool. Anybody like songs by rock artists? There was one by Emerson, Lake & Palmer, i think called Father Christmas, Bruce Springsteen's Santa is coming to Town. I know these are "traditional" but I still like them. Any others u can think of?

I like most Christmas music. I have to be in a certain mood to really sit down a and listen. I love the great chorale pieces. I have a lot of CD's and some old LP's

I'm a little late to post, but if Manheim Steamroller doesn't put anyone in the Christmas spirit, I don't know anything else that will!! I have raised 5 kids and Christmas at our house wouldn't be the same without it. Now that they're all on their own, they've all gone out and bought the CD. We also like Mitch Miller and Gene Autry. This was what *my* parents raised me with, so I think i've 'inflicted' it on my kids, but they love it!LOL
