Printer Driver

I have an H.P. P 1100 Printer does everything I desire including double side printing, works great, but I recently updated computers and now have Vista Operating System, my dilema:Looking for a site that bootlegs printer drivers if available, H. P. no longer supports my jewel P 1100.

Thanks for any help you can provide other than throw my P 1100 in the trash. Ha!

I would go to the HP site enter the model number and go to that page to see if perhaps they have released a vista upgrade for that printer if you find nothing there I would enter into a chat there with an HP tech and ask them if there is a vista upgrade available for that printer, they may have to email it to you. If they do not ask them if they know of any generic drivers available that would work.

At the driver sites online I am finding version 3.5 is that the driver version you have? it may be they did release a newer one than the original that might work.
A word of caution if you do download a driver from anywhere be sure to right click and run your virus scanner on that file before opening it on your pc.

In addition I have found this blog article that seems to work going by replies on forums I looked at. Definitely seems worth a try.

This was a quote reply to someone using the same exact printer you are using
"Hi
this blog post by Vince Ferraro has some good info about the drivers. If you install your printer as HP deskjet 1120c (add a new printer) it will print text and websites try a test page and see."

If all else fails may I suggest you try to just install it and allow Vista to use what it feels is the appropriate driver from its .inf file. This was a concern for me when I purchased my Vista system two years ago.

HP did not release an updated driver for my 5650 printer. They did suggest trying as I reported along with the alert that if the install was successful not all features may work. I tried it and everything works fine.

but before I do that, are you fairly confident that the directions for the error code re the cd/dvd drivers will also work re a printer driver? To answer the question above you must realise any advice given on a help forum such as this is based on the knowledge of the people offering the help. Ultimately the computer owner must accept the responsibility and decide to move forward or leave alone. Personally I would do as those posts suggest after looking at a couple of sites to compare suggestions. Then I would create a Restore point, make a note of each entry edited and move forward. If you wished you could remove a couple then reboot to give you the confidence to move on the others. In the link below it is only about 6 clicks of the mouse to arrive where you need to be. Then as they state, just look on the right side for the offending entries. Just visit and look without making any modifications first if that will help you feel at ease. Your fear of the unknown is real but just work steadily along and you will be amazed at how easy it really is. Of course if you have back up software like Acronis True Image then the game is easy, create an image and attack the problem. Here is a link that might be useful: Remove Error 39 at PC Hell

Thanks, Bob, My sister was phoned back by a Microsoft rep. She was told to do the following : " Go into your control panel, printers and faxes and add an HPDeskjet350 as a printer and check that as default printer, then you should find that you can open your documents and print them. " The Microsoft rep. said this was only a temporary fix and HP should be contacted for a printer driver update ( which doesn't seem available since my sister tried conversing with them and was disconnected) What is quite odd is everything worked fine for about 5-6 months

Thanks for your help, pkponder. I installed the software on my laptop, and everything is up and running. This morning when I turned on my laptop, though, I got a message telling me that Windows Firewall had blocked the printer monitor that I installed. Of course, I read the dire results of allowing an exception... and I'm afraid to allow it, to be honest. I guess I have to, though, in order to use the printer? I used the printer fine (from my laptop) last night, after installing the software, so the Firewall blocking this morning surprised me.

one thing to remember since that pc had xp sp2 on it prior to going to the shop and he put sp3 on it if a system restore was done to a date prior to install of sp3 it can cause major issues, you will end up with a mish mash of both. Back when everyone was doing sp3 installs it was highly recommended not to do a system restore because of that, instead the recommended method was to go to add remove programs and remove it from there. However since you already have sp3 on the pc and the tech did this and you had asked him not to and now you have problems the best and logical thing to do is bring it right back to him and tell him it needs to be fixed, He apparently did not check to make sure everything was working properly. You paid for it to be working he should make it good. If you can have it with sp3 you definitely should have it with sp3 so you can continue to get your windows updates on it. Thats my thought anyway.

Thanks ravencajun and damccoy the info you recommended was very helpful, I downloaded the deskjet 1120C driver from HP and my printer works except double sided printing, Surely I will be able to locate a driver with the Dbl. sided feature. Also one of you mentioned the 3.5 ver. driver, I really don't know what I have except it is the original furnished with the P 1100. Where might I find the 3.5 it might do the trick? Thanks again for your help. This site is the greatest.
