I was really hoping to find a class-action lawsuit I could join - not so much for the money but more to assuage the fury that I feel when I think of how unhappy I am with my "premium" piece of junk Kitchenaid stove. In 2018, when we renovated our kitchen, we decided to “go big” on the appliances, and went with Kitchen-Aid. Up until then, we had been using the old same stove and fridge that came with the house 14 years prior. Neither of the old appliances was a premium brand but they had served us well, and neither had even once required a call to the repairman. Other than the fact that no amount of levelling will allow the door to properly close, I have been fairly happy with the refrigerator. My greatest anticipation, however, lay with the prospect of a new stove with a self-clean feature. Oh BOY! No more sticking my head in an oven covered in corrosive goo and fumes. No more crouching painfully on my knees to scour away the greasy grime. Or so I thought. Then I discovered “Aqua-Lift”, the most useless piece of technology ever conceived of, except for perhaps the Rotato. No. I take that back. The Rotato does what it says it will. I will not even pursue the fact that the Kitchen-Aid broiler sets fire to everything I put in there before it has a chance to actually broil properly, or that the stovetop elements are so hot on the lowest setting that I can’t properly simmer most dishes. Whirlpool’s Aqua-Lift “self-cleaning” feature alone is enough to convince me to never again buy Kitchen-Aid or any other Whirlpool brand. Aqua-Lift, for the uninitiated, is a Whirlpool brainfart that depends on steam to break down the baked-on grease that accumulates inside your oven. If you’ve ever tried the youtube hack where you put a bowl of water in your oven and heat it up so that the steam makes it possible to just wipe it sparkling clean “with NO scrubbing!”, you will know that this method is about as effective as waving a magic wand over the mess. The instructions that come with the stove warn most emphatically that you should not use any kind of cleaning spray or foam to clean the stove or door glass as this can impair the cleaning process and/or damage the surface, and nullify the warranty. And there it is, your Catch-22 – because no amount of steam can reverse the chemical change that occurs when grease gets baked on to the sides of your oven. So, after several earnest tries and and equal number of abysmal failures, I got the big chemical guns out again. I’m back on my hands and knees with my head inside the oven, scrubbing and cursing, and hoping that the cleaner will eat through the grease before it eats through my gloves. I fervently pray that this piece of junk stove breaks down soon so that I can pitch it onto the street for delivery to its most appropriate destination – the dump!!!

Well, it looks like I am the newest member of the disgruntled KA wall oven owner club. Ran the self clean cycle on our 1 year old, still under warranty, KA wall oven. 3 hours into the cycle I noticed that there were no indicator lights on the control panel - the oven was dead and the door was locked. I waited a few hours to allow the oven to cool down and followed the web-based procedures to unlock the door but nothing has worked. I've flipped the breaker off, waited several minutes and flipped it back on (did this a few times believing each time that something magical would happen) but the oven is still locked and nothing works. Finally, I called KA/Whirlpool and waited 45 minutes to speak to someone in customer service. After patiently waiting I was finally connected. We spent some time verifying that my oven was still under warranty (with 5 days to spare!) and documenting my problem. Once it was determined that she could not resolve the problem with weasel words I was told that it would be 2 weeks before a repairman could come. When I politely but firmly protested she transferred me to a technical representative who also was unable to resolve my issue but did confirm the 2 week lead time for the service call. I am now in the waiting period with a locked oven door. If anyone has a suggestion as to how to unlock it beyond the breaker on-off trick, I welcome your input. I will continue with chapter 2 once our repairman arrives.

Let me know what happens. I bought a Superba 30" floor model from Lowes. It is waiting to be installed until my cabinets are ready. It is for my lake house and I did't realize it had so many problems until afterI had purchased it. I did buy an extra 4 years warrenty. Lowes is supposed to replace product after 3 repairs. We will see. I think I will clean it as soon as it is installed

I posted on a similar problem back in July/August. We purchased the whole kitchenaid architect II series suite for our kitchen. We had several problems - when the oven arrived, it was damaged so badly that the door would not open because the whole frame was bent. We had to PURCHASE a second unit in order to install it so that the house would pass inspection, get a C/O, so we could close and move in. After 5 months, PC Richards finally came and took the broken oven and credited us back the purchase price of the second one. Kitchenaid and PC Richards both denied liability for those five months, and both said it was our fault for accepting the broken oven upon delivery - completely absurd, given that it was completely packaged and the damage was concealed. As for the refrigerator, the icemaker/water dispenser would not work at all. We called PC Richard (date of delivery) and they told us to call Kitchenaid, who told us to call PC Richard, who told us to call Kitchenaid. Long story short, but parties refused to fix the damned icemaker. Kitchenaid said they would send a service tech but that we would have to pay for it (yes, on the DATE OF DELIVERY of a brand new $3k appliance). SO they set up an appointment for 3 weeks away. I called the technician to see if he could come sooner, and he said he couldnt come at all, even in three weeks, and he also said that our model refrigerator had this problem all the time, explained that the wiring harnesses are cut during packaging, and that it takes 6 months to get a new door/wire harness, and that the only thing he could do was submit a claim form for us, but he couldnt come at all. We called Kitchenaid back and told them what he told us, and they had us call another service tech, who came and confirmed what the first guy said, and said that there is no way to fix this chronic problem. Then we called PC Richard, who told us we had to deal with Kitchenaid, and explained what the service technician said. They said since the 1 yr manufactuers warranty was still in effect that our $500 extended warranty would not cover anything and they refused to send us a new fridge...... So after 6 hours of calling all of these people, I ended up sobbing uncontrollably. Lucky for me, my husband, outraged by the absurd turn of events and pissed off that these jerks made me cry, ripped the fridge apart and rewired the whole thing himself. Now it works wonderfully. So, dont buy from PC Richards, especially dont bu the extended warranty, and dont buy Kitchenaid. The only reason our oven works is because we paid for a second one, and the only reason our fridge works is because my husband apparently knows more about refrigerator repair than Kitchenaid, PC Richards, and several service technicians. Oh, and coincidentally, Kitchenaid change the design of the fridge so that the wiring harness is no longer in the same place, and it now has a new protective coating to prevent it from being sliced by the packaging machines.... We know this because we went to the store to show PC Richards what happened and when my husband pulled the fridge apart we saw the change. Still, dont buy from these jerks
