Kitchen Aid self cleaning oven
Comments (7)If you have a KA (or similar designed Whirlpool) oven as the KEBS etc referenced in all these posts....CHECK THE BOTTOM TRIM PIECE. We've had our oven since 2005 with not one problem (and yes the wife runs the self clean cycle). In the original thread, a gentleman named Ty pointed this out. I accidentally ran across this thread/issue. Being an engineer and consummate DIY guy, I installed ours. When I looked at the instructions and saw the picture with the trim attachment, I mumbled something about not understanding basic heat transfer....I intentionally installed the trim piece such that a nominal 5/16" gap exists across the face. This allows the extremely hot air during the cleaning cycle to flow out. If the trim piece is installed butt against the door bottom, you will have thermal issues. I can't believe that KA/Whirlpool service has not provide a better response/solution. That does say something about where to spend one's money....See MoreCleaning a KitchenAid Oven
Comments (23)Our royal blue interior KA was probably bought in 2008. We mainly use it for cookies and bread and the occasional turkey. It doesn't seem to get very dirty. I only used the self clean two times (successfully) while under warranty and I have occasionally wiped it down with 409 or other regular household cleaner, and used easy off oven cleaner a couple times. I think the interior is easy to clean as it appears you found as well. It doesn't sound like you think the self clean cycle is really needed. If you use it, you probably have one of the newer models with the slightly larger cooling fan and will be all right. I have noted that my oven (and probably yours) gets cooling air drawn in thru the front bottom of the oven. Due to poor unpacking, we never found the decorative bottom trim cover plate. It was called a vent, but when we finally bought a 'replacement' I could see that it doesn't let all that much air in. If I ever do a Self Clean Cycle, I will remove the vent before turning it on (I never actually placed the two retaining screws in anticipation of a self clean; and the 'vent' rests in place without them). Thinking more about my own plan for the self clean: I think it would be wise to buy a backup replacement fuse for the self clean system in advance. The problem is that several years ago they cost ~$50. So I haven't bought one yet. KA 'thoughtfully' put this fuse on the outside back of the oven so you have to slide the oven out to get at it; gee thanks....See MoreIs it ok to clean a self-cleaning oven?
Comments (3)Just DON'T ever use the self-clean cycle again ... unless you RINSE the oven very well of any cleaner residue (and perhaps open windows and leave the house for the duration). If heated to the high temp used in a self-cleaning cycle, oven cleaner residue can generate toxic fumes....See MoreCleaning Self Cleaning Kitchenaid oven the left over burnt on grease
Comments (20)"Steve Parker: Water dispenser has leaked since day one. Dealer changed the ice maker under warranty still drips," Replacing the ice maker would reasonably have no effect on a dripping water dispenser which is a separate mechanism. Aqua Lift or steam oven cleaning is on several brands/models, not just KitchenAid. I've seen a few (I don't recall which brands) with both steam and high-heat self clean which provides the user a choice of cleaning (or non-cleaning, LOL) methods....See MoreUser
