problem with IMAC attachments

I recently got my first mac computer, and am loving it, but I am running into a problem when I try to send an attachment to anyone. They cannot be opened. I have IWORK on the computer, which I thought was supposed to convert the attachments so I could read anything sent from a PC and vice versa. I was originally unable to read any attachment sent from a PC until I added IWORK, and now I can, so I know it is working for stuff I receive, but it doesn't seem to be working the other way. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It would be helpful perhaps if we knew the 3 digit extension on the file name. Or is this for more than one kind of file?

If you were sending a .jpg image there would/should be no problem but if you are sending with a Mac specific extension then PC users would not likely be able to open the attachments.

I am not a Mac user but am trying to assist my sister who has bought an iPad2 having never owned a computer before so the going is tough.

Hi owbist, I am sorry but I don't know the extension it was saved under. When I pull it up in my documents it just shows the title of the form, and not the file name. How would I find the file name? That certainly may be the problem if it is automatically saved with an mac specific extension. I will try and figure out what the file extension is but it anyone has any suggestions on how to find it I would appreciate it. Thanks!

You want System Preferences, then choose Print and Fax. Highlight the printer and click the little minus sign below your list of printers. You're get a confirmation box. That's probably not the problem. You might want to read the manual for the printer and see what the cause of the error light is.

wait a minute you got a warning on your screen? it could well be you just happened upon a website that was one of the ones infected with antivirus xp. It pops up warnings saying you have a ton of infections on your pc and shows all these warnings which are actually just pictures not real scans of your pc. One way most realize that this is a fake is when you happen to visit those pages on a Mac or Linux machine, because it starts saying what is infected and Linux does not have any of those type files nor do Macs. I would definitely suspect that, but just what exactly showed up on your screen? what gave the warning? what did it say was infected? more info is definitely needed. I have purposely gone to some of the malicious antivirus xp sites on my linux machine and it starts popping up those warnings on my pc too but it is so obvious it is just a bunch of fake pics because it is showing windows file systems and well linux does not have em! Hi Owen, one thing about neem oil: did you buy the concentrate stuff? I don't know if they have non-concentrated formula available. If you dilute it down, it should last a long time and it's pretty cheap per application. Just a side note in case that's why you thought it was expensive. As for the corn, usually corn grows so fast that any bugs and most diseases aren't much of a threat to them. There might be an issue with them growing in the bags like they are. They like heavier soil and usually potting soil isn't very heavy. They need a lot of root space and the sides of the bags will sort of prune the roots. They might not be getting enough root space, but maybe someone else knows more about those symptoms.

Reducing a full size photo by a factor of 20 on my big camera and maybe a factor of 3 from my phone will significantly improve your odds of GW 1) uploading the file and 2) posting it. This is an example of the size reduction I see in a lot of my photos and for email/posting on the web, you do not need a photo so large that you would be scrolling left/right and up/down if it was viewed at full size. My camera image sizes may be 20 MB while the phone is typically 3 MB. I reduced these photos from my phone from last evening after I downloaded them to my laptop and oriented them correctly. Some websites will not orient the pictures for you. A lot of camera have problems with red so this is not what I see as it is a much darker red. Still amazing what the phone cameras can do (and not do).

I have some further info which I hope will be helpful. I tried saving the document with a ".doc" extension, and I got an error message saying I had to use ".pages" extension. The pages is apparently part of the Iwork program. So is there any way for me to change the extension name to something that is PC friendly that will still allow me to save it in my mac?

You might try to save the document as an RTF (rich text format) file. This way any word processing program should be able to open it. Failing that use .txt but that is quite primitive really.

Never really understood why RTF is not used more making cross platform acceptance so much easier. All to do with money no doubt.
