I Love Macs! My Macbook hard drive died and my old PPC Mac Mini too. This fall I might get a new Mini. We'll see.

Gee, I'm envious. I'm in total agreement with you and wish I had the cash to switch. Tuezday's recommendation of David Pogue is a very good one. He 's a New York Times Online (and print) columnist for their "Technology" weekly magazine section called "Circuits" and a hip Apple-loving affectionado. I'm a Times subscriber, so I'm not sure there's a fee for getting Circuits weekly or not in your email. Its worth it, whether anyone is an Apple lover or not. His weekly Times video column as well as his forum is always a hoot. In the past, ususally you had to sign up to read any article from the Times Online, I don't know what they are doing now, but David Pogue alone is worth it. Also, they now provide articles, without extra charge (of his), published from 2004. I showed one of my Apple-loving cousins my 84 updates (most of them security) on my Add-Remove program list and they were shocked. They said their Mac's need nothing of that magnitude to remain secure. As far as Linux, I don't understand it and I could not get a retailer to install it for me on a new hard drive. That is a very unfair business practice. My broadband also stated that they will not "support" Linux, whatever the nebulous definition of support currently may be. wait a minute you got a warning on your screen? it could well be you just happened upon a website that was one of the ones infected with antivirus xp. It pops up warnings saying you have a ton of infections on your pc and shows all these warnings which are actually just pictures not real scans of your pc. One way most realize that this is a fake is when you happen to visit those pages on a Mac or Linux machine, because it starts saying what is infected and Linux does not have any of those type files nor do Macs. I would definitely suspect that, but just what exactly showed up on your screen? what gave the warning? what did it say was infected? more info is definitely needed. I have purposely gone to some of the malicious antivirus xp sites on my linux machine and it starts popping up those warnings on my pc too but it is so obvious it is just a bunch of fake pics because it is showing windows file systems and well linux does not have em! I assume you used the Add/Remove feature of Windows to remove the program? OK so now open Windows Explorer and drill down to C:\Program files\PC Health - or whatever title they gave it during the install. Click it in the left window to highlight the contents in the right side. Remove the contents of that folder showing on the right side then the folder itself. Having done that I would then use the free Crap Cleaner to remove all the remnants left behind. Seeing as I used Crap Cleaner to clear off a load of junk I would finish off with a defrag of the drive
