I wouldn't touch one of these with a 10ft pole. Not recommended for plasma TVs as they give off more heat and that heat needs to be dissipated. Not recommended for silver TVs because it does not "blend in" like with a black TV and so you can see the TV through it. Also, you better not have a husband who is a videophile, because these things will reduce the light coming through, which reduces picture quality. In fact, their brochure says that only 65% of light passes through, 6% is absorbed by the glass and 35% is reflected. Now, since that adds up to more than 100%, something is up! And before someone says "but that's just from the front side," it's not. The glass can be used either side, which means it's coated the same on both sides. Lastly, since it is 35% (or whatever) reflective, that means that its very bad for an LCD TV in a bright room in daylight. Without it you have no issues at all because LCD screens are not reflective (like a plasma). With it, you will now have that issue and it will be almost as reflective as a plasma. Thus, off-angle viewing, in particular, will suffer with reflections. Want to hide the TV? Hide it in another room... ;-)

After seeing how many broken LG TVs came back for service at the store I used to work in, I wouldn't touch one.

The main difference (originally) between "television" and "monitor" is a television has a built-in tuner to select broadcast and/or cable channels from a coaxial cable, and a monitor does not. A monitor simply accepts a video signal (composite, S-video, component) and displays it. Channel selection must be done via an external device such as a satellite tuner or a VCR. My 4-year-old Panasonic plasma panel would be considered a monitor. It does not have a coaxial input or a tuner. I selected channels (when I had cable) by using my VCR as a tuner. However, nowadays most all consumer-level display devices / televisions / monitors DO have a built-in tuner, so "television" vs. "monitor" may simply be a marketing term. Just make sure whatever units you are considering have a built-in tuner and can take whatever kind of wire or cable connection you have, and make your choice on which one fits your budget, has the features you want, best picture quality, etc.

sandplum, I'm glad you got something and hope you get more. I agree about the fires---there's always some fool somewhere who sets his place on fire and that fire threatens other people's property. Yesterday they dropped our chance of rain from 60% to 40% wthis evening hich bummed me out. Now, this afternoon they've given us a forecast of 40% increasing to 70% overnight. I really think it all will come down to whether the storms rain themselves out before they get here. A lot of us now are in the Moderate (Yellow) risk area for severe weather, roughly from 3 pm to 1 am, so yall keep your ears open for updates on that locally. The main risks currently seem like they'll be hail (a gardener's nightmare) and high wind gusts. Earlier that Moderate risk was smaller and further north, but today they extended it way down south. I think dinner here will be quick and simple tonight as Tim is supposed to be in town monitoring the severe weather at our county's Emergency Operations Center from whenever our Emergency Manager opens it until he closes it.....because, y'all know, Tim doesn't need sleep or anything like that. (grin) Maybe I'll make some cookies for him to take up there tonight. I know it can get tedious for them to be in there for hours, monitoring all sorts of data and sending out updates and alerts to the rest of us. Let's hope for widespread rain everywhere but without the hail and wind damage, and especially without flooding. Dawn
