Probably nothing to do with your computer. More likely an issue with the internet providers. Have your friend right click on a returned header then click Properties/Details/Message source. Expand that to full page for easier viewing and read down through to find out why. I suspect her ISP is blocking the server you use because Spam is leaving that server - not from you but another user.

It's been working fine and normal until this afternoon, then the problems started again. It completely froze up when downloading the 3rd message. So I tried the safe mode approach. First of all, I live in a rural area not served by any broadband, so I have to use an aircard to get any kind of speed. In safe mode, the aircard wouldn't start. But I went to Thunderbird anyway and it just sat there. So I rebooted again into normal mode and went to Thunderbird. When it works OK, the screen has the little Thunderbird symbol when it's downloading my mail (the fox in the bird). When it's not doing right, there's nothing but some text there. There's also the message that it's building a summary file for the inbox, and the little wheel above is just spinning and spinning. While this was happening, I got out my ironing board, filled it with water, let it heat up, ironed 3 shirts, drained and put the iron and ironing board away and it still hadn't finished. But when it did, I then had to prompt it to get my mail and had to wait forever for all of it to download, although everything was just text except for two with a few pictures. I might mention also that when it's not working properly, this little green box appears in the tray on the bottom right, which, when I click on it, gives CPU usage. Sometimes two of the little green boxes appear. I have now spent over two hours just trying to get my e-mail, all the while my aircard is racking up minutes. I think I just want to either go to Outlook (which I've never used) or an earlier verision of Thunderbird. I just don't want to lose my address books and folders. Help!!!

Rita" How untrue that statement is, as much as and as well as the MSWin IE/XP FUD works (you bought the FUD after all, eh), it just ain't so....And if you do it right, and use the right software package to do it, removing BOTH OutLook and IE is a simple and very effective way of making your PC faster, stabler, and w/o IE-OL, more secure too..... And it'll have a smaller footprint and memory requirements, and can be set up as you, not Steve Ballmer, wants it to be. Or you can do the delete "manually" too, but it's (to me anyway) a royal pain in the arse....Instructions for doing it right are in abundance.... I ran "it" for on my last (well, it was really the S.O.'s PC, but I grew weary of having to fix something every, well very often.) MSWin PC, and installed it for a friends daughter (and installed the software that she PURCHASED not stole) on a fPC just a few weeks ago. It IS a very strange situation, indeed. And here's some more weirdness. None of the e-mails stay on the server...I double checked and everything was downloaded, per the settings. When I first started looking for a prog to replace WLM, I started using Outlook....but the e-mails were disappearing from the Inbox. I thought it was a problem with Outlook and even posted a query here on the forum. Never solved that issue, but disliking WLM more as time went on, I gave up on Outlook and thought I'd try Thunderbird. Then the same thing started happening! I had made TB the default and set WLM to NOT check automatically for mail....BUT...when I would open WLM to look at something in a folder there, it would check for mail on Startup and all my e-mails would show up. That's when all the messages in TB would disappear. When I realized this was happening, I opened Outlook, sent some test messages there and watched as they disappeared before my eyes when I opened WLM. Do you think maybe I'm incorrect about the mail staying on the server? Wouldn't I see it there when I go online to check?
