Cost of granite - Am I off-base?

I'm usually over in decoratsing.

DH and I are doing a mini-makeover of our guest bathroom. We selected a granite remnant which was so small he wasn't sure he'd have enough. The quote was for a 22 by 43, with a sink cutoff, undermount, 3 fauctet holes, sink, and no fancy edge. The quote, including tax, was for $1219. This seems high to me, particularly since we selected from remnants. Before we left, I asked the salesperson to give me a ballpark of how much it would be and he said it would run around $35 a square foot for the Donna Sandra. His quote didn't break it down, and we have been unable to get that from him, even after calling multiple times. ( A problem in itself, though this yard says it's the oldest stoneyard in America)

We went to a stone yard because everyone says their prices are sometimes even less than the big box stores.

Is this price reasonable?

TIA.

Dee
