If you are infected with System Check it is important that you do not delete any files from your Temp folder or use any temp file cleaners. This is because when the infection is installed it will delete shortcuts found in various locations and store backups of them in the %Temp%\smtmp folder. It does this so that you when try to launch a program from your start menu, none of your shortcuts will appear and thus making you think that your computer has a serious problem. Therefore, you do not want to delete any of the files in your Temp folder as it will remove the backups that we will use later in the guide to restore your Windows Start Menu. To make matters worse, recent variants of this family have been know to install the TDSS or ZeroAccess rootkits as well. Not really sure Lynn. I don't use the program but I did install it from my first link I provided you. I was able to run it and got an 89% all abode products have issues ha ha.. What i usually do in that situation if it's only 1 program having an issue is as we did uninstall it, delete the programs files folder if it's there after uninstalling. I mean you could try it again, this time reboot before installing again. Or you could see if the program opens in Safe Mode just for fun.

this is a suggestion, maybe you can take the side off the tower and take some pictures of the inside especially the fan you suspect to be the culprit and someone here can then have a better idea what exactly it is you are dealing with and you can take a picture of the one your bought or the package. There are very good picture tutorials online on how to replace fans but as stated working with power supplies can be very dangerous. The other fans are not that difficult to replace. Personally I would consider replacing the entire power supply on a pc that old since it will likely go bad soon anyway and is probably much less powerful than the ones used today so you could upgrade to a much better power supply and that task is easier to take on. here is a step by step with pics for replacing a power supply fan.
