I went to the local Parade of Homes yesterday...

The one thing I noticed is that most of the homes were much more modest than in past years. Well laid out, family homes. Many were advertised as Craftsman style, although I saw very little craftsman elements in the interiors. Just a few on the exterior.

I'm guessing the average price was $400,000 to $500,000 not including lot, driveway, sewer, well, landscaping, utilities, etc.

Common things included:

*Geothermal with hydronic heat

*GREEN homes

*BIG garages

*small kitchens with huge pantries. A couple of the pantries were actual rooms with windows and cabinets with sinks, connected to the mud room.

*Lots of stained concrete floors

*exotic wood floors. One was Asian Walnut, absolutely stunning.

*Bigger closets

*Smaller master baths w/ large walk-in showers. No tubs in a couple.

*Large mud rooms with cubbies

*Smart Siding on many. Saw some new colors that may have swayed my decision toward this product.

*Open floor plans. The larger the home, the less apt to have kitchen open to great room.

*No white kitchens (I was surprised), it was a mix of very light wood and very dark wood (black).

*SS was still predominant for appliances, but more black than I expected. No white.

*Few formal dining rooms

*Screened porches with fireplaces

*Many firepits in the backyards
