Thank you Christophern for asking the question and thank you Owbist for providing the solution. I love it!. I made the changes last night before shutting down. This A.M. I didn't have to linger, waiting for the log on screen so the computer would continue to boot. What a convenience.

I've learned, and continue to learn, so much from this forum.

The only trouble was that mine reverted back to the original start up screen that came with the machine, it did not recognize my personal settings,not good. Had to do a system restore and now am back to the blasted start up screen again,oh well.

Chris if that were me I would rush to get an online scan or run my safety programs sudden like. Alterring the password control should have no affect on things as you suggest happend to your computer.

What would happen if you make those changes on a PC with more than one user?

I run ad aware,super anti spyware,malware bytes, comodo registry cleaner, easy cleaner, disk cleaner, every week, so i don't think it is anything foreign. The more than one user thing might have something to do with it. When the start up screen comes up the is an administrator emblem and one with my name, I click my name and all comes up as I have set it up, never have tried to click administrator.

Do some software programs require that one be logged on as an administrator when installing for the first time? Something about needing administrator "privileges"?

Some time ago when I tried to bypss the logon screen via some other method (I forget what it was), I panicked when my email contacts, favorites, etc. disappeared. I undid my changes and those missing addresses, etc. reappeared, much to my relief.

This time when I followed Owbist's directons, I noticed that the user name that automatically came up was "Administrator" . I now know that my settings are in "HP Administrator" so I made sure to select that in the "control userpasswords2" box. As I reported earlier, the logon screen is no longer and all my settings are there.

I would suggest you note the "name" under which you logon, and then follow Owbist's directions but be sure you highlight the name that corresponds with your usual longon name.

So if I delete the other 2 names in the box that comes up( administrator and user) and just leave my name,all will work?Thanks

Luis - having never had a computer with multiple users I cannot say what might happen dong this. My machine only has me and the Administrator. You can try by logging in as admin and if it is not working afterwards you can easily go back and set it as it was before if you feel the need.

Chris I would suggest you do not remove the Adminstrator user, this at times is required for certain actions. I am set up as a user with admin priviledges so when I did this it was immedialte. Try logging in as admin and setting the password bypass.
