jbryson1, welcome to the board. As a Ford Electrical engineer (retired) we will find some common ground, and probably some where we will bump heads. While specific vehicle knowledge can come into play on some models, and plug and play is acceptable, there are others out there that plug and play attempts can cause serious problems so that really should be avoided at all costs. First thing, the 4WD indicator blinking does indicate a fault in the 4WD system, and they probably would not have 4WD available if they needed it. One of the biggest things they need to know is the dealer isn't the only place to have this looked at. Most independents can handle GEM module issues with the run of the mil scan tools such as the Snap-On MTG2500, the Genisys, or the Mastertech. However top shops will have an NGS on hand for these systems as well. As far as the repair that was done a few months ago, forget about it for the moment Sue. The car should be diagnosed right now as if it's never had any other problems or repairs. It would really be a waste of time and effort to pull the door panel and start looking at things first, before following a proper diagnostic routine. That being said, the easiest circuit to deal with is the power window circuit. As I said, for this car, and especially this system, I would choose the NGS for my scan tool. The first step I would perform is pull the drivers door switch, and check for power at the LT Blue/Black wire. If there is no power to that wire with the key on, I would use my NGS and attempt to command the ACCY delay relay on/off. BTW, the ACCY Delay relay not only controls the power windows, it also powers up the torque on demand relay, which is part of the 4WD system. Depending on my findings at this point I would be either headed towards the ACCY delay relay, or the GEM module for the next step in the diagnostics. But the most important thing, is I would not be getting anything to plug in and try, and this is where jb and I will be at odds. Ford for some reason has never embraced the idea that technicians are capable of critical thinking skills, and quite able to analyze a system like this. All we need in many cases is a fault code, the criteria that the system uses to determine the fault, and an appropriate schematic, and we will go find the problem in an efficient manor. Now the main reason that I would start where I did in my diagnostics? The switch is easy to access. Plus you said you "windows" don't work which I take as being all of them. The RH door does not get controlled directly through the GEM module. But the ACCY Delay relay, is controlled by the battery saver relay, and it is controlled by the GEM. Once you understand the circuit, it would be easy to temporarily take control of one or both relays away from the GEM, and see if you can operate them and the windows. That is the outline for a solid diagnostic routine, and armed with a schematic, and the correct tools any tech would diagnose your car without unneccesary expense and substitution of "known good parts" that you don't presently own. well those toolbars come with many many programs if you do not read carefully when doing installs or updates including java, flash, and IE, many of them, in fact there is a hall of shame at COU forum listing all of the programs that now include pre selected toolbars in their install, it has nothing to do with the browser you use to do the download or install it has to do with watching what is pre checked when doing your updates or program installs and un checking any for things like toolbars. I have had to clean tons of toolbars off of peoples computers too who had never heard of firefox, only had IE. I tell people to add a second browser because it is a very good idea to always have at least 2 on the pc because as we all know IE can and does fail then leaving them no way to access the internet. Whether they select firefox, chrome or opera, it does not matter but firefox is the best known so when asking for help they will find more people that are familiar with it. All browsers have their pluses and minuses none are perfect and I have never seen anyone here say any one browser is perfect. the point to make to people who have loaded up their pc with toolbars, why this is happening to them, is to watch what they are doing! Pay attention to every single line when doing any type of install. And do not let it add unwanted items, if they are not told how it happened it will happen again. Generally, we budget approximately $500-700 per single window opening for material only. This budget pricing practice can be faulty when a project includes multiple radius windows, as curves generally increase the price substancially. Other items that increase per unit pricing would included divided lights, specialty glass or hardware. You are currently reviewing a couple of good window manufacturers. We always accept bids from at least three material suppliers, and make attempts to ensure that the material specifications between manufacturers are similar. In the example of windows, we generally look at Eagle, Kolbe and Marvin, as all three utilize extruded aluminum sash and frame cladding and solid wood construction, and thus are generally rated high in structural testing. We feel confident that the high structural ratings, among other criteria, will provide a solid permanent fixture for our clients. Additionally, when dealing with tight budgets, we never compromise on the permanent fixtures of the home. These fixtures include foundations, framing, plumbing, windows and wiring; items that are very expensive to replace. We've found that it is much easier and less costly to replace wood floors, kitchen counters, light and plumbing "fixtures", roofing, etc., so these are the items that receive attention when budget constraints are in place.

My parents built two houses when I was growing up - both architect designed and custom built. The second house was a WAY smaller version of the first due to a sharp rise in building costs. By age 73, I've lived in several houses, some really well thought out, some not so good. The one I've been in for the past 32 years works pretty well, but most people on GW wouldn't like it - no first floor laundry room (W&D in basement), no mud room (that would be the basement - basement garage), and no first floor master. Yet it works quite well for me. Yes, I do take advantage of whomever might be at my house (family or workmen) to carry down a basket of laundry or carry it back up to the 2nd floor. I CAN do it - just tires me out so I don't do it. Moving it is not an option - no place to put it with nearby plumbing plus I actually like it being in the basement. When I had 5 dogs, I would have loved a mud room, but not for family - for muddy, wet dogs. WAY too costly to build on the back of the house, so now have fewer dogs! First floor master? I do have a first floor guest room, but it's quite small. I would not want to live in it. I love my bedroom on the 2nd floor - truly prefer it there. When I can no longer do steps, I will have to move as I also have a basement garage. No place for an elevator - would happily put one in if it were possible. One thing I hear people saying when designing a house, is that they want to entertain informally for large groups. That presents an interesting challenge. How to have space for large groups of people who will eventually need to sit down to eat (or are cocktail parties with finger food the kind of entertaining done?), yet still have a cozier area when it's just the family. Most of the plans people show are for rooms that, due to no walls, are in fact, not that large and would not easily accommodate 15-20 people. That takes a LOT of square feet and that translates to lots of money! The best floorpan for this I've ever seen was in my late in-law's house. They had a lovely library just off the front hall, where they sat every day and watched TV, read or played dominos at night. If just 2-4 people stopped by, this is where they offered them a cup of tea. The living room was at the end of the front hall and it was huge - two pair of french doors, a large bay window, and another window. But their architect was brilliant as he put the fireplace back-to-back with the one in the library, and created a nice sized "nook" in front of it that held a 72" sofa and a 60" one, with two club chairs pulled up at the LR side of the nook. It was a lovely place where 7-8 people could gather more formally before dinner. But the rest of the room had another sofa, more chairs and was perfect for a large crowd. They often had 20-30 people for holiday meals. Their dining table seated 22, and they put up a "children's table" in the entrance hall for the overflow. But this was a large house - about 4500 sq feet, not including the servant's wing on the 2nd floor - more like 5200 if it were included. Most people are not building houses that size - far too costly. But this was a wonderful, gracious large house that never felt "barny", nor pretentious. They were never there in the summer, but if they had been, those french doors and the ones in the DR opened onto a large flagstone terrace and the house could easily have handled 100 people for a drink party. People need to think how they entertain - who their guests are, and how many can they reasonably accommodate. For most people, summer is the best option as the overflow can be outside. Having 20 people for a holiday meal and only having seating for 14, means people will be eating on the floor, and that invites disaster. It's thinking how one actually lives - not ones "fantasy life" - that must decide how a house works. It's ridiculous to build a house for a once a year party, and then compromise in areas that affect one on a daily basis. My house was built in 1948 and in those days (and for many decades afterwards), people had 6-8 for dinner parties. My house works beautifully for such entertaining. But crowds for a cocktail buffet or cocktail party? Not good at all. Good thing I hate such parties and never give them!
