Glass block can look very busy. My advice would be to keep the tiles very simple. I googled for pictures-personally, I like the ones in the 4th row where the tile is about the same size as the blocks and there is little to no trim/ borders. That should work well for a contemporary look.

Since you are doing a modern style, why not use glass tile in a shade that picks up the color of the glass blocks? Some of the older glass blocks I've seen have a decidedly green tint, but this pic shows a great design where the blocks have a blue tint.

A couple pictures I took at Ames Bros Last Week. These where in their clearance section. Spend a weekend or two looking for some steals in your local tile stores.

You might find inspiration and just enough tile for your project in one of them...
