I am not sure what you mean? I am not too computer smart. I do have Windows XP - Version 5.1 Thanks for any help.

If your computer is slow when you are running this HP image program it probably has to do with the size of the images. These can use large amounts of computer resources. If the computer is slow when you are not running this program nothing will be served by you deleting them, they are simply in storage on your hard drive waiting for you to use when needed.

Do you run AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spywareblaster or any similar programs to protect yourself? These are all free programs. Also which firewall are you using? If it is the Microsoft one I suggest you get something different. Why? Because the MS firewall only stops incoming but lets all the phone home spies already on your computer call their home and report on your web browsing habits. Zonealarm, Comodo or any other 2 way firewall will do you proud.

You say you cleaned and defragged. How old is the computer and how much free space is on the hard drive? Click Start, click My computer and you will see the size of your C:\ drive and how much free space you have. There needs to be a minimum of 20% free for the volatile swap file tom operate successfully.

You could also visit PC Pitstop, linked below, and get a free tune up. Be sure not to click any links that lead to spending money. This is a great, free service. Run the full test and be sure to click on each yellow or red flag afterwards. All checkered flags would be nice but I doubt you will be that lucky, haha.

Thank you. My computer is 2 years old. I checked the C drive and it said that I have 128GB of free space and 12.6 GB of used space.I have Norton Security and Webroot Spy Sweeper. I think I'll try the PC Pitstop. Thanks for your help.

I just ran the pitstop and I had all checkered flags except 1 yellow one for internet. Connection speed is slow. Don't know what else to do except I guess just live with it. Thanks for all the help you have given me.

go to the control panel, system - on the 1st tab that comes up, it will say towards the bottom the processor you have and how much ram / memory you have.

Wow, I am impressed. All checkered flags at PC Pitstop bar one is excellent - but of course you still feel you have a slow computer. The only thing I can think of now is adding more memory but as you already have 512 I am not sure the expense will pay off in a big performance boost. There will be modest gain of course but the new memory will not migrate to a new computer down the road as they now use different configurations.

You have a fine machine there. I doubt that a 100 photos are slowing you down. I agree with owbist (nothing will be served by you deleting them, they are simply in storage on your hard drive waiting for you to use)
Some people have thousands of photos.
My 2 cents on the slow down is either the HP image program or another program or mutiple programs are running in the background that you're not aware of.
You can press Ctrl+Alt+Del and get an idea of what processes are running and using the most CPU.
To check the programs that run at startup, get the free CCleaner it not only cleans your computer, but under tools/startup, you'll be able to delete entries that are set to run at startup. Basically all you really need to run at startup are the firewall and anti-virus protection.
*note, with ccleaner, during the install uncheck google toolbar if you don't want it.

Do you have a branded (HP / Dell) computer? If so, post the brand / model #, we can look it up to see what kind of ram you need and whether it is worth adding or not.

Usually places like Comp USA will have ram on sale with a rebate.

I have a HP computer . Pavilion S7310n

The page at HP says you have 512 - 2 sticks of 256 DDR2 PC2-4200

Looking at newegg, the cheapest I see is a 1 gig set (2 X 512) for $70, which isn't bad.

1 stick of 512 = $40
1 gig stick = $65

roselvr-- Thanks for the info. and I am not trying to sound rude BUT I don't even know what you are saying???? Is this something that would make my computer run faster and would I have to have someone (bought computer at Best Buy) put this stuff in my computer? I really am dumb about this.

You can add the ram yourself, it is very easy to do. Check the link below, it shows how to do it. Since you know how much you already have, start at Step 3: Open the side panel

Yes, the ram should help and should be a good investment. I haven't checked the Best Buy ad, but it's possible they have some on sale cheaper after rebate.
