When my avg9 found a trojan a notice came up and asked me
what I wanted to do with it. I sent the Trojan Vundo.Go to the Vault and later I deleted it.

Open the AVG interface>Tools>Advanced Settings. On the appearing tree select each of the components individually. Review the appearing information in the right pane to determine if all the appropriate boxes are checked.

I have run Malwarebytes and it claims I am clean , with no problems. I'm hoping I checked the appropriate boxes in the advanced settings under tools, but AVG is still saying " no components are active" What am I missing here ? Is there another way to activate that I am missing ?

Why not just download AVG 9 again, remove the one you presently have installed, and install the new download. Lots easier than jumping though hoops trying to find out why it's not working.

I would gladly download it again, but I now have no icon present next to my clock ( where it used to be) I went to the AVG site and downloaded 9.0 again, but when I click on save , the download box disappears and no prod to" save to" is there. All there is is an empty box . Now what ???

does is show up in add remove programs?

try searching your pc for AVG, start> search
if you go to start all programs is AVG listed?

you may need to run the removal tool before getting it again.

Hi Raven,
I tried ( desperately) to uninstall or remove from ADD/Remove in the control panel and it will not remove. This is very frustrating. There is now ( after doing a system restore to the middle of January) an icon on my desktop that I can click on that is once again telling me that " no components are activated" I have tried just about everything I can do and am about ready to have AVG do a repair and pay them, but I'm leary of giving them my credit card online.

no just go ahead and use that removal tool on the link I provided for you, if that does not fully remove it you need to get the free Revo uninstaller and use it to clean it off the pc, you apparently have a corrupted install and it is not wanting to come clean. You might want to consider AVAST if you want to change from AVG.
If you can not get it all done with that AVG removal tool then get this
Revo Uninstaller use the link in blue that says Revo uninstaller free

Thanks very much for all the help. I finally called AVG and , of course wound up paying them to uninstall and reinstall the "free" AVG. The problem, they say, is that I have too many security systems going and that disrupts the installation. I had to remove Winpatrol (scotty) , and Spybot. They did a gemeral cleanup and gave me some probably good advice .....about updates and Internet Explorer, etc. Then they did a scan with Malewarebytes , which I had done yesterday....I won't tell you what this cost, but I'm just glad it's done !

I'm glad your doing better, but I do wonder about something. On this Vista system I have AVG 9 Free along with Spybot, WinPatrol, Malwarebytes, and SUPERAntiSpyware. All are up-to-date versions. I have never had any problem.

He also recommended I update ( or download ) the latest Flash and shockwave from adobe , but I'm unsure of which version to download and from where ( adobe.com?).

Sorry go carried away, bad case of cabin fever! Yes you can install those programs....

when in doubt of what needs updating it is a great idea to use the secunia software inspector, you can use the online scanner or install the personal version.
