Still IE6 Problems

I saved all my emails from all suggestions and again I tried mikie's and Randy's suggestion and I found the correct Hotkey and I right clicked and changed the value from 1 to 0 and it still won't let me download IE 6.

I tried Cat's suggestion from a while back and Bob i4's and nope. It will not let me download IE6...am I in trouble for changing that value from 1 to 0?

Starting all over again is just an awful long task. Its 10 hours of downloads just to get everything running again, has anybody heard anything new...I guess my IE6 is so messed up...

Maybe I'm thinking wrong but seem to recall with xpsp2, you can re-install it to

rebuild ie6.

I tried all above again, just now, and won't let me download IE6 because I have a "newer version" ... the junk left over from IE7.

I don't want go through the Norton setup or Microsoft updates...again. Lemme know if anybody can think of anything else.

What exactly is the problem you have with IE6 or IE7 besides that you can't install an older version.
318378 should have all the answers.

Use the System File Checker tool to scan all of the protected files on your computer:
Click Start, and then click Run, In the Open box, type sfc /scannow, and then click OK.

Or a repair of Windows XP, or reinstall Windows XP.

If you're worried about the registry subkey "IsInstalled" (REG_DWORD) value, go back to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ActiveSetup\Installed Components\"89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383> and change the value back to 1, even though the Microsoft Support article said that to stop the Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on this system. Setup cannot continue. the value should be set to 0.

I can't use the back arrow more than twice in a row without having IE6 close. Java can't update, and I can't copy or paste or use my email tools from Charter. It does crazy things like bring up infinite search windows from time to time (until I manually turn the computer off). I have to delete my temporary files manually, the buttons don't have any results under Internet Options. My FTP site is not accessible. IE6 is closing increasingly, yet I have less trouble with software than I've ever had before. Morrowind is a CDTer and most people get anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour of play before a CDT, but I can play for hours. The problems are all centered around this IE6 rollback from IE7. All my virus scans are negative, as well as searching for rootkits. This IE6 never did work as it was supposed to...I can't get rid or it unless I start over, and I don't have the time! Who does?

My only other question will this remove the problematic security that came with IE7 and rollback IE6? But either way...it would be a lot easier than starting over. This is so trite..but everyone that plays Morrowind is suffering CTD's (Crash To Desktop) within around an hour play. Morrowind has a history of CTD's, but especially now, its like every ten minutes because Bethesda (game maker) didn't author the mods. Part of the game is modding and there's a huge modding community that offers up about a thousand or more changes, free, to players through Planet Elder Scrolls. I've never come across a virused mod and they check them pretty carefully before they wind up on File Planet (mod downloader)...I always scan my downloads before I install them, I unblock them and Microsoft,recently, is just having fits that the new tapestry I wsnt to put in my game didn't come from Bethesda! One poster on a Morrowind forum wanted to get a gun and shoot his game. MY IE 6 is just ohhh man really screwed up. If I make a mistake...I'm done for. I feel too stupid. I can't do system restores either, Windows renames just about every file I own upon completion of the restore...that's a mess and half. So maybe I'd just better start over. I am going to download and a keep a copy of nlite, from what little I've read...it handles lots of things I really don't need or want or use on my computer. Instant Messenger being just one of the space and power gobbling programs I didn't ask for. nLite is very good idea and a great program, especially in the face of Microsofts often immovable position they have concerning some of their software. It is a keeper...even though 'm a little sheepish about getting my feet wet. marf

it is probably one of the many ads that are on these pages that are triggering that cpu spike with IE 6 something in IE is not working properly with the ad. I was having major problems here also due to the ads and had to break down and put ad block plus on my firefox just to get this site to work right. It is very very ad heavy to say the least.

I can't believe how many comments there are suggesting that this problem would go away just by various corrective techniques. It's obvious that the tiles are bowed and that no amount of clips, or changes to grout lines, or better plumbing of walls will change that. Many tiles, even some expensive ones, suffer from this firing problem. The first thing I always do when I find a tile I like is put two pieces face to face to look for any gap or bowing. If there is some, it's a problem I don't want to deal with. If I see no problem, I test a few more pairs to be sure. The last shower I had done used 12" X 24" tiles that were dead flat. But I still had them laid in a stacked pattern, with no overlap, just to avoid any lippage possibilities as large format tile always is a challenge: I agree the OP's photos look bad, but the job appears uniform and consistent in its badness. To me this means the tile guy did the best he could with bowed tile laid in an inappropriate pattern for it. His fault was not stopping at an early point to discuss with the contractor and the owner what this was going to look like when it was done. But let's not keep speculating about non-existent solutions for tile that is so severely bowed. This is only going to be fixed by a redo using a different tile that is flat.

I like to keep my topics and go from there so it's interesting that if you're in gardenweb it keeps them all in gardenweb but if you're in whose it accesses everything from who's. The only issue is when I'm notified by email of a post that I made in whose. Then I still can't post to it. I made some on the gardenweb as an experiment so I will report back if I can post to those. I don't know if you guys get email notifications of comments but I do. So when I click on the comment on my email it takes me directly to the end of the thread to the newest comment.

was the ie6 version number 6.0.2900.2180 ?
its down in windows/ie7 folder. not that that makes sense but there it is.

If i wanted to go back to original ie6 and was having not much luck think i might start getting rid of what i could find ie, before finally doing a clear dllcache folder, prefetch folder, and run RegSeeker...
maybe first look in the .inf folder for signs of ie.

Then pop in xpsp2 cd when it asks for the windows cd to repopulate the dllcache.

But I'd also relize I might break it nessitating a full repair install (spelling obviously wrong, cant read the suggested)

When I booted up today my computer told me IE6 was no longer on my hard drive ...did I want to save my settings?...sure! I don't want to look em' all up again.

Enthusiastic and with bated breath I went to the Microsoft IE6 download page...and it told me that a "newer version of IE6 was installed on my computer ... etc" and Randy my damn value is set to Zero. Honest. I'm so worried about my huge temporary internet files not being able to dump...I downloaded IE7. Even when my computer tells me I do not have IE6, Microsoft will not let me download it. I guess I'm stuck with IE7.

Changing the value from 1 to 0 had no effect with Microsoft concerning my IE6. I double and triple checked it. My own computer doesn't think its there. I probably should not have saved my settings. This has been just too weird. They want me to have IE 7 so I got it.

Keep in mind that I know just enough to be dangerous. I have IE7 and it has a few glitches, but I'm going to keep it. The techs who set up my computer tried to talk me into keeping 6, and I have no opinion one way or the other if they were right or not. But...they told me I could roll back to 6 if I wanted....but you also have to go in and uninstall the IE 7 updates that have been downloaded on your computer...you probably already knew this, but I did get that from reading what you had written...this might be a help and it might not, but it just came to mind as I was reading about your woes....not even sure if I worded it right :o)

Thanks...but I don't how the world my own computer perceived IE6 removed and Microsoft did not. It has been a very problematic rollback. It has not been fun. It has been getting worse. When I couldn't manually remove my temporary files with the delete key without constant CDTs. I went back with IE 7 out of fear. I can clean out my cookies and temp files and not crash to the destop every five minutes. IE7 is dammn slow, devil or deep blue sea. The time I spent crashing to desktop I now spend loading, loading, loading, loading. I sing it to a tune. And I have 5 meg cable. Loading, loading, loading.
