IE6 Slow on GardenWeb

XP IE6 Avast All updates etc etc

If I use my preferred browser IE 6 on these Garden Forums the CPU usage goes to 100% and everything loads super slow and when moving the window it shakes etc. exhibiting all the characteristics of maxed out CPU usage. Logged in or out don't matter.

This doesn't happen anyplace else. All other sites snap uh well right up I mean they come sliding in on a shovel.

I fired up an old version of Opera V 9.2 and ALL sites snap to and the CPU usage is nominal.

it is probably one of the many ads that are on these pages that are triggering that cpu spike with IE 6 something in IE is not working properly with the ad.

I was having major problems here also due to the ads and had to break down and put ad block plus on my firefox just to get this site to work right.
It is very very ad heavy to say the least.

I agree with Chilidawg, using Firefox, I don't notice anything being a problem. I am a paying member if that makes a difference. Firefox is free, less prone to viruses and spyware, and easy to download and intall, here's the link below in case you're interested. Sue Here is a link that might be useful: get firefox!

1) Need to look into eliminating multiple posting. There are so many images pop up they slow, sometimes block, the page to be loaded up. This also cause multiple post issue . Because we can not be sure, when the page is not loaded properly, we click refresh buttom then multiple posting occurs. 2) Broswer competitiveness. When I use IE, the page often load very slow, or not get loaded at all. Sometime only the frame loaded not the rest after click refresh 20 times. But after I change to Chrome, page loaded most of the times in a reasonably speed. 3)Better way of search old threads in each forums. Would like to see the option of searching in a particular forum. 4) Able to upload image is a big improvement, Thanks. But would like to see upload multiple images , not just single one image 5) Please do not "email notifications of post replies". This will flood my mail box very soon. the more replies , the sooner my email box will be filled and the rest of e-mail can't get in or be piled down... I consider this feature an internet " terrorist attack" to my mail box.

I usually frequent the Spanish forum but have not had Internet access for a few weeks so I was horrified to see what has happened there. I too have contacted the admin. people to see what can be done to stop this troll. For anyone who would like to 'talk' gardening in Spanish I suggest you try www.infojardin.com (and just yesterday I was recommending gardenweb there for them to practise English!) Its a very friendly forum and for many members Spanish is second or third language so there are often errors and grammatical mistakes but the main thing is our common interest in growing things so language takes second place. It is a moderated forum but as there is mutual respect among the members it is rare for the moderators to have to act. Basically no-go topics are porn, religion and politics. If there are others here on this forum who could also contact the webmaster re. what is ocurring on the Spanish part I would be most grateful.

GardenWeb - very slow to load pages

You may need to do minor tweaking to your PC. go to start/control panel/internet option/browsing history and delete temperary files. While you are there in internet options, pages will load faster by resetting your temp files (General/browser history/settings and change disk space between 50MB upto 250MB). Otherwise the server maybe a little slow.

As I have shared before I am still on an antique DUN. By personal choice I use IE7 as my default browser with FF and Opera as backups. However, in recent months this forum's presentation has driven me straight up a wall. I now more often than not use FF to view it. If I don't it takes forever to load pages.

Even at work the IE 6.0.28 drags.

I'm tending toward Opera, its fast, blocks popups, doesn't use Active X plus what I read it is quite safe even tho SpywareBlaster doesn't cover it.

Messt with it this morning and was able to configure it to open with just a blank page, the address bar and no tabs! Hate tabs.

And FF? Ugh! - not an option.
