ok, here is an update. I was able to find the ingredients for the mix and since i live in the desert south west i am mixing the recipie for the high desert heat as follows: 4 parts turface 3 parts bark 2 parts crushed granite but i completly overlooked the 1 part vermiculite and did not noticed until i had already root pruned and repoted one of my citrus trees. I won't be able to buy the vermiculite until next payday (this friday). should i mix it in once i get it or will it be too much stress on my tree to be repoted in a few days again. I almost prefer to leave it alone until next spring, the area where i live is a good citrus growing area so i think it may just be fine. I will wait until i get the vermiculite to do the rest of the trees. what are your thoughts on that? has anyone kept tropical fruit trees in the gritty mix? i am trying to grow mexican papaya. I have read they don't get very big so i can kep them in containers but they don't like too much water because they can have root problems. I do have the seeds of a papaya i ate and i can experiment with a few different mixes combinations. Any ideas/sugestions for me? thanks for reading

Hi, Owbist. I don't think dust bunnies have been cleaned out for a year (and maybe not even then). My computer repair guy added 512 mb ram then (it had been only 256) - and I think he would have cleaned out the dust bunnies, but I'm not certain. So I can try that. I think he put in the maximum memory my desktop could hold. I have no idea what firewall I'm using or how to even tell. I know her computer is conected to my linksys router (her connection is wired). I had some vague notion that it included a firewall that served both our computers. But, honestly, "firewall" is one of those terms that scares me bc. I know I should know more about it and make sure I have adequate protection, but I'm not (kind of like some people think of retirement funds- you know it's important but may stick your head in the sand). Last night after I wrote the above post, I did download, update and run superantispyware - which found 167 items, which I then removed. I haven't gotten on to her computer since. (Well, I tried and wanted to remove old, unnecessary software - for a printer we no longer have - but it kind of stopped and froze midstream.) I confess that I do disk cleanup and defrag on my computer, but have forgotten to do hers since I passed it down to her in January. I will do that now. Yes there is vaccination against tetatus with tetanic toxid, it won´t prevent the clostridial infection but it will protect against the effects of the toxins produced by the bacteria, C tetani, like it´s cousin C Botulinum belong to a group of the Clostridium genera called NON TISSUE INVASIVE clostridia, while the other members of the genera can and will invade the tissues causing gangrene ( black leg, malignant edema ) seen most commonly in cattle. If tetatus is a matter of concern and if the animal is in the high risk group ( like a watch dog living in a junk yard ) then it is advisable to vaccinate the dog with the tetatic toxoid every 3 or 4 years. On the other hand, your dog going to the vet and getting tetatus after the visit only indicates poor higiene practices from the vet ( by using non sterile equipment ) something that should never ever happen. Why is it common in horses ? the reason is quite simple, horses are shoed and the way to attatch the shoe is with nails, see the relation ? the nail penetrates into the soft tissues of the finger and drives the bacteria inside the wound, exactly the type of wound that´s not ventilated and that has poor oxygen levels, a week later after the horse being shoed it gets tetatuns. It´s not common to see tetatus in dogs, I´ve only seen a couple of cases in more than a decade and a half of practice, but they can get tetatus. Symptoms include: Prolapse of the third eyelid ( you third eyelid or nictitant membrane displaces towards the middle of the eye and can be clearly seen ) Sardonic grin ( the lips are pulled back and the animal acquires a strange look, like it is smiling ) Tonic-clonic seizures. Breathing difficulty ( disnea ) The good thing is that the problem is treatable and the recovery takes only a couple of days in hospitalization.
