HP mini and Verizon usb port connection

I just purchased a new HP mini 210-2180NR to use while I recuperate from knee surgery. I don't have WIFI at home so on my desktop at home I use a Verizon wireless adaptor plugged into a usb port...I have the Verizon Access Manager downloaded to do this.

My daughter has downloaded the Verizon Access Manager on my HP netbook (per Verizon instructions) through the WIFI at her store. But the wireless adaptor will not work....

On the Verizon Access Manager site where she got the download, it also says "VZAccess Manager requires the "HP Multi-WWAN Driver Installer" in typically preloaded on HP notebooks....if not, go to hp support and download it. We went to HP support and it says the Multi-WWAN driver is not available for the HP Mini.

Any advice from all of you would be appreciated. I thought about calling HP support, but when I have done that in the past, I get people that I cannot understand their English and get so flustered.

Looks like the product HP mini 210-2180NR Does not support that type of connection.(Multi-WWAN driver is not available for the HP Mini.) So there is no easy solution to use that type of connection on the mini, as far as I can see.

why not try using the HP chat which is available on their website it is very helpful. You can then talk more easily and understand better.

If you had only 2 USB ports, was your other Keyboard plugged into one, or do you have 2USB's and 2 PS2's for hook ups? If you only have 2 USB's and no PS2's then by all means pick a USB HUB and that will add the extra ports that you need. To find a USB 2.0 hub with A/C plugin they might have them at Office Max and Staples and all over, probably even Target. I assumed that when you stated the new keyboard had a USB connection and both were in use...that therefore the older keyboard was connected by a PS2 connection (because if the older keyboard had been disconnected from one of the two USB ports... one would be available). Or did I presume too much...again? Below is a nice example of an electrical plugin/usb plug in at Amazon. Although I can't figure out what those four pegs stuck on top of the box are supposed to be on the picture from a owner. Some hubs just plug into your computer and thereby draw extra electrical energy through it. The better ones plug into your computer but come also with an A/C plug to get the energy needed to run out of a wall socket, instead of drawing the extra through your computer. Just as TomH had suggested. The boys from along time ago made the same suggestion to me with my notebook and they are right. Its looks like Bob14 found your two hidden USB ports! None-the less you will probably want a hub sooner or later anyway. Between speakers, mice, keyboards, printers, external hard drives...and OHYEAH Game Pads!...they fill up fairly quickly. I had my old drive that was in my original HP Pavilion computer. I was told that the drive had crashed about 2 years after I had gotten the computer. Well I just put the drive aside and forgot about it until recently. I hooked it up to the Sabrent 5 in 1 Cable to Serial ATA transfer thing and hooked everything to the drive and then plugged it in to the USB port on the tower of my home built computer. It was recognized and I was able to reformat it. Now I just need to get a new hard drive enclosure.Thanks to Owbist and Terry I was able to do it without having to call my son and bother him with a lot of questions.

you can also get a powered usb hub which has it's own electric plug which you plug into the outlet, that way it is not using the power from the pc it has it's own power and then those items that usually must be plugged directly into the pc usb can be plugged into the powered usb hub. I have many usb hubs I use daily and never have installed any thing to make them work I hate adding un-needed junk. I just plug a usb cable into the pc run it to my desktop and plug my hub into that cable, works like a charm on all my computers. I do use a powered usb hub for some things. I have about 4 usb hubs I got at biglots for $6 each that are excellent they are not powered but they are 2.0, you want to make sure any you get are 2.0 hubs, often you can find really cheap ones but then find they are not 2.0 so are much slower. I have another that is from Radio shack and has been used for years now with no problems.

It's probably a ferrite bead used to suppress electronic noise. I'm not an electrical genius but I understand that it offers 'electrical noise' protection to either the computer or the weather station and is likely a good thing to have. Did you try one of the USB ports on the back of your computer? I understand those to transmit more power than the ones on front. Another thought would be to try connecting without the extension first in case there is some sort of 'device discovery' that needs to take place. If that is successful, maybe try the extension. It could also just be a bad extension, did you try it with another device? Best of luck!

My gut reaction is that Verizon was too lazy or cheap to write the drivers for their product. As I read it, the Multi-WWAN driver is for devices that have wireless broadband hardware built-in.

I'd download the HP Multi-WWAN driver for a similar mini (make sure you get the matching O/S). Either the driver is going to install or it's going to balk at the lack of necessary hardware. I'd bet that even if it balks, the drivers get installed anyway.

If that doesn't work, I'd call Verizon and ask them to support their product. You're paid them for the device and continue to pay them for monthly access. HP Mini's are quite popular so you can't be the only person having this problem.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice on this. I finally decided to return it while I still can and do more research to see what is easily compatible to Verizon Wireless.
Again, thank you, as each time I post a question on this site you always come through with answers for me and I appreciate your help.

Verizon does have a model that has the 3G modem built in, I believe. But almost any regular laptop can use the Verizon USB modem. It just must have been that particular model of netbook that could not.

I use one on my HP mini netbook. I never had any problem with it. I purchased it at the Verizon phone store and they set it up for me and got it working. Has worked perfectly over a year.

Try bringing the mini into the Verizon store and let them hook it up.
