USB port problem / update

I am back to see if I can get any further help. I am 99% sure that my problem is the USB ports that are damaged because the "safely remove hardware" was not used when a connection was plugged into it. I have done everything that I could find instruction for in the troubleshooting and other guides, but nothing has worked.

I called HP tech support, it will cost $49.95 for a three day support on this one problem. [or $149.95 for any problem for six months.] But she did assure me that they could help me fix the problem........but I wanted to check here first. Now a days, $49.95 is a lot of money to me. So that's where I stand. Hope all this is not too confusing...
