Craigs list help

I would like to post an ad along with a picture of my item on Craigslist. I am not at all familiar with the process. I've never done anything with Craigslist.

can anyone tell me the pros and cons. I was just reading about spammers collecting email addresses from posters. How can you avoid this.

Can you tell me how to post a picture. My photos are already on Photobucket. do you do it the same way you post pictures on these forums?

Do you recommend Craigslist for sellers or just buyers. I see on the home dec forum, many people buy things.

Use a different E- Mail address, sign up with g- mail or Yahoo something like that.

Thanks for the help. I was hoping it was going to be tha easy since I've done it on GW forums.

Now how do I create a new email address. I am really not good at these types of things. My son ususally sets me up with anything technology related and I just go with that.

Men are always going to want the elongated ones, but they're more comfortable for either gender. If it won't stick out too far to get in the way of walking in and out or reaching the sink, I'd go with elongated. But if you're under 5'5" or so, the short "standard" height will be better for you (I can't stand when my heels can't reach the floor, which is a problem only on the very tall ones). So what to get? You're constrained by the options available in a 10" rough-in. The Toto CST744SF.10 works great, but is elongated tall only, and a bit pricey (about $300). I'll vouch for the Gerber Avalanche which I recently bought - it works great, and is available in 10" rough in both elongated (21-810) or round (21-800) bowls, those are both shorter height. These are just as good as the Toto in my experience, and about $60 less (and less still for the round bowl model). Almost as good are their next step down in price called the Viper, 21-510 elongated or 21-500 round, again both are shorter height. Those model number are for the 1.6 gallon per flush models; they're also available in 1.28gpf versions that save some water, but don't work as well, in part because a smaller area is normally filled with water. My only beef with these is that they're harder to track down online, and typically are sold at plumbing supply stores where plumbers and contractors buy stuff rather than places that are more consumer-oriented (that's true of Toto too), but I do have one consumer store chain in my area that stocks them. I paid $240 locally for a comfort-height elongated Avalanche with a 12" rough-in; standard height will save money, but 10" rough-ins cost a bit more because they're not as common. I have a Viper in another room and it's almost as good and another $40 less expensive. American Standard also sells a large selection of 10" rough-in toilets in their Cadet 3 and Cadet Pro lines - I've heard they're reasonably good, again with the 1.6gpf models offering more reliable performance at the expense of slightly more water use. They also have those very short depth Colony FitRight models that are the least expensive of anything here. I've never seen installed American Standard commodes of any of these types so can't judge them myself. HD and Lowes both can order American Standard, but only HD stocks a single 10" rough-in model, a 1.28gpf Cadet 3, I think it was elongated short height. Remember I've never seen your layout, and I don't even have a floorplan, and haven't done my own measurements, and there are other brands I just don't have experience with, and anyway I'm not a plumber or contractor, I just play one on the internet. You may want to have someone knowledgeable look at your room before you buy.

there are definitely scams out there I was looking a while back for netbooks and found one listed in my area for a super price, I respond to their ad and they come back with oh sorry we happen to be out of state right now but if you send us a money order or cashiers check we will ship it to you as soon as we get your money... UM well gee let me think about that NO. I sent a response to them from a different email address and got the exact same canned response. Do people really fall for that? I guess some do unfortunately. All my buys from craigslist have been face to face in person so I can try out the item and pay cash. But I have not had any problem getting my email to them or getting responses when I do the copy and paste directly to my email. I think there is a link somewhere I have seen on craigslist for if you are having those kinds of problems check around for one.

My experience posting real estate on CL was: 1) Got 95% of inquiries (calls, emails) within 36 hours of posting the ad. 2) I learned to repost every few days to get more interest and each time I reposted that calls/emails would revive. I would delete the prior post and then create a new one. 3) Always post several photos 4) Put your location and price on subject line plus top selling feature if it fits (such as waterfront or 5 acres or 1 year old or top school district) 5) Dont have to specifiy FSBO in the subject line and don't have to make it the 1st few sentences of an ad either. Just focus on marketing the property and don't have to put FSBO front and center. Dont hide it, but don't make it more important that the home and price and location and top selling features of the property.

Check ebay and see what your items are selling for and then try listing on CL at a comparable price. We've sold exercise equipment on CL and if it is a top-of-the-line brand it should eventually sell, but first check CL to see if there are several others listed. If there are many of the same items up for sale on CL, your chances of selling it are slim.....unless you put a really low price on it. I recently considered selling a crib mattress that was rarely used, but after seeing there were 1 1/2 pages of crib mattresses on CL I ended up donating it. I've found with CL that you need to keep relisting. I will sometimes take it off for a week or so, but I usually just keep the ad going. You may be able to sell the curtains on ebay, but again, check the Completed Listings for actual sale prices.

It's really simple I'll give you a link for free Yahoo Mail sign up. Choose the free one. You could use this for Craigslist.

You will need to choose a user name and password. The user name you choose will be the one the receiver sees when you send an E-Mail.

On mine I use zep516 as my user name, and have a simple password so I can remember it.

Craig's List hides your email address by default. Now if you respond to an email, your address will show. I do a lot of advertising on Craig's List and there is some spam but it's generally pretty easy to identify and delete. Actually my Mom was just trying to sell something and got some story from a guy who wanted to send her a cashier's check for the full price of the item (sight unseen) and then send movers to pick it up. Uh huh. /delete/

As for posting pictures, it's pretty easy to do. Craig's List uses a fairly basic, abbreviated form of HTML. You just use the HTML image tag (just use Google for plenty of examples). Craig's List also has a list of the HTML tags it does support on their help pages.

You can use any online hosting service or upload them directly to Craig's List. With the latter method the images are pretty small and you are limited to 4.

I highly recommend using CL for either option, I have sold quite a few items, and the last one we sold on CL was our motor home, only about 3 weeks ago...it is an easy process, and best of all you are selling to people in your own area. I sold my old dryer in 1 day, and my old DW in 3 days.

Susie you are not necessarily selling just locally. Google can find items on Craigslist. I advertised some Doulton and had a reply from California yet I live in the east.

zep516, thanks for the yahoo link. I did it...and it was easy. Now I am trying to post my ad on Craigslist and include a picture. The actual posting went fine, posting the picture ....not so. Do I insert the HTLM directly in the ad as you do in these forum postings? I clicked ADD IMAGE and inserted the htlm from my photobucket account in one area but for the second picture I clicked "browse" and got that one from my hard drive. When I clicked "continue" nothing happened. Does it ususally take a long time to insert the pictures. Or would it work better if I just inserted the HTLM in the body of the ad.

You just use the HTML image tag post it to the add. Like Mike Kaiser said. I am sure you could also browse the hard drive also.

OK...I inserted the HTLM in the body of the ad. It appears as a little box not a picture. I hope readers know to double click to open the photo. Is this normal or did I do it incorrectly? Should I redo it and browse the hard drive? It was taking a really long time to upload, so I cancelled and redid the ad. Now I have it at the point where I have to continue or edit. What to to?

SUCCESS!!! I finally got it to work. Thank you all for the lessons and your patience. Hope I can remember it all for the next time and I hope I can find the posting to follow it. Then I'm on to e-bay
