It sounds as though you're saying that it does this on all burners. Chances that all of your knobs are not shutting down seems logically to be pretty slim.

So before you have someone come out and look at the range, I'd pursue the possibility that it is your line or your connection. Should be easy enough to diagnose with the soapy water trick or by having your gas company come out and do it for you.

Then if that is all clear, I'd be calling Capital.

I'd have the gas company come out and check for a leak - they're required to do this. If the problem is in the range, then you can get Capital to fix it but at least you'll be able to definitively tell them the problem is with the range.

gbsim does have a good point. It's statistically unlikely for you to have gotten 4 bad valves when we haven't heard of any other CC owner with similar issues. The lingering shutdown is generally caused by gas in the line draining. I left one of the old simmer burners on mine and it has lingering flame dots for 10-15s before going out.

Applying Occam's Razor, my guess it's probably a simple loose connection on the supply. Following weissman's advice is your best bet. The gas co will likely come out the same day and test to find out where the leak is. I will say however, that I did have a gas leak inside my first Blue Star cooktop so it does happen. Funny thing is, after that was replace, I smelled gas the following morning and called Bluestar. The white glove service guy came out later that day and ran his nifty gas detector over everything and found that the installer hadn't applied any pipe sealant on the connection so it was leaking there.

I did call the gas company, and they did come right out. I only wanted to have the line and the connection eliminated as potential problems...but it turned out the problem WAS the connection. It simply needed to be tightened where the flexible pipe joins the back of the range. And the service tech said the same thing as you, amcook: as soon as the valve is shut, there's no pressure in the line between the stem and the burner, and whatever gas is left simply drifts out, resulting in the little pops of flame. (I can't recall seeing anything in the literature of any range manufacturer assuring people this is normal.)

So there is NOTHING wrong with my Capital, and I can get back to recommending it unequivocally.
