beadboard
Comments (16)You're asking about tile that is essentially the baseboard? What I'm picturing is the traditional curved bottom tile with the finished upper edge (I'm sure there's a name for it - curb tile maybe?) probably 4" or 6" - right? IMO and it's just an opinion, that won't look right with the beadboard. A nice wood baseboard installed over the beadboard will look much more appropriate. If you picture the beadboard being installed above your existing tile, you'll have an unfinished edge at the bottom that's not covered. Comments (37)Gosh, thank you everyone - it feels really good to be able to give something back here; I've learned so much from y'all! awm the paint is my mix of RH Saffron & Butter, done in Aura paints. I really like it in every light - this room gets a LOT of light, but none of it is direct sun. I tried a ridiculous number of sample paints, & finally decided to have my mix custom done in Aura. Unfortunately I bought too many gallons of RH paints (I do love their colors!) before discovering Aura & Ellen Kennon) The kitty is Django. & yes, he is a happy kitty, except when he's hungry. He was rescued as a tiny baby, from a dumpster, hungry, & 12 years later I still haven't convinced him that he'll always have enough food. daisy yes - those are the infamous stairs. Doing projects like this does make me understand at least one good reason for blogging, but good heavens, if I started blogging I'd have to read other people's blogs, & I already know how lost you can get in them! I spend enough time on the internet as it is! I guess this IS my blog lol! Besides which, I appreciate the well-written blogs - here you can just pound out the words w/o paying too much attention to editing. Not always such a good thing, I guess ;-D...See MoreBeadboard or Picture Frame Wainscoting:What's best in a bathroom?
Comments (20)My $.02: I don't think picture-frame wainscoting is stylistically appropriate or practical for a bathroom. Also, painted MDF could seem cheap, especially in a home with solid wood wainscoting in other rooms, and I'm not sure how it would hold up it in a room/climate that is subject to mold. While I like true beadboard in vintage baths, it's often used just because it's trendy, fast, and cheap (if you use any of the various imitation beadboard products). Beadboard would look good with your Memoirs toilet and pedestal sink, but may seem too cottage-y for the rest of your house. My first preference would be for tile wainscoting, which need not be expensive in a small space if you shop around and do the tiling yourself. Are you really sure you can't use it? Unless the seasonal movement is really extreme (in which case you must have problems with all of your walls and wainscoting), you should be able to use tile as long as you have the proper surface, use small tiles, and flexible grout. (I'm no expert, but that's what I've been told.) Another option would be to simply install a chair rail around the perimeter of the room. You could then use different colors for the upper and lower walls, or paint the lower wall and use wallpaper or stenciling on the upper part (although extreme house movement could sabotage wallpaper)....See MoreBeadboard backsplash questions
Comments (23)Mayflowers - Wow. Good to know. Thank you! I'll look for those photos showing the bb to the ceiling, but I don't think I want to do that. For the island, that's something I've thought about for a long time too. The toe kick area is 4-1/2" and the current base is 3"something. I couldn't find trim that size. I don't know how to finish that area off. " I might even look into framing the sides and backs with the same frame as around your door style to make it look more finished off." I've love to do that, but don't know how I'd get it to match. The easy way, I thought, was add the same bb that will be on the splash. I agree about the corbels and am going to change them to something wood and simple. Maybe something like this. (link) Also would love to change out the lighting in this room and that's going to happen with the next round of things I tackle. Athomeinva - Oh thank you so much for posting those photos. It looks really nice! Since mine will be paneling, I'm not sure what I'll do to finish off the side/edges. Maybe some type of chair moulding. Geez, I really need to get a plan together. So what's the right way to run the bb behind the refrigerator? Mine is in the middle of the cabinet run with cabinets & counter on the other side. Do you run the bb down past the counter and keep going with the trim the whole way across? Stop the bb at the counter and keep going with the trim? Stop the trim on each side leaving no trim in the space behind the fridge? I know we're not really going to see anything back there, but how should it be done? I am removing the microwave and running the bb to the top before the new one comes. Pattycakes - I've used the bb wallpaper in my laundry room on the insides of the cabinets and loved it. I think it would be very hard for me with all the cuts to do a backsplash. Since we're having someone do this, it'll be easy peasy for him. Here is a link that might be useful: possible corbels...See Morethull
