My PC finally clean - question about Landzdown

I appreciate having found out about Landzdown on this forum. After several days of Corinne helping me (some things not going the way they should), she finally had me go to Kaspersky.com and run a full scan that took a number of hours, and it came up with no infections to report and the welcome news that my computer is clean now.

My question is, how do I thank Corinne? When I went back to the thread that I had started, there was no longer a reply button to hit, so I couldn't say, "All is now well and thank you." Then I thought I could find something about donations being welcome and how to make them, but that didn't work, either.

Is Corinne running this as a hobby and does she not need money to keep the site running? Not that I have much, but I feel a bit guilty to have had all this help and not even be able to say thanks, and I know other sites that solicit donations, albeit very nicely and not at all forcefully.

that is wonderful that you are willing to contribute for the assistance you received at LzD. The entire staff at LzD is exceptional and go the extra mile to help those in need. You can contact Corrine (or any of us there) by PM on LzD should you care to do so and thank her or you can start a thread in the Lounge area thanking the whole staff for help, believe me it is always appreciated to hear a thank you. Many times there are several of the team working behind the scenes to get the results you end up with.
Corrine is on many many help forums on the internet and does it as a volunteer, she has been awarded the MVP many years now and again this year from Microsoft. She does have a great blog you can keep up with.

I am sure she could give you some ideas for donations which would help the security support community efforts if you told her you would like to give a little back.

All of us in the support community want one thing over all and that is to pay it forward. If you were helped in some way try to pay that forward to someone else even if it is just now knowing where to send them for the help they need.

we also had a castiron tub where the porcelin finish has worn in some places. To have it professionally re-done was so $$$ (& was told it didn't last forever either) so my son got some stuff from HomeDepot for refinishing the castiron tubs. He has to wear a mask & sand & use a very strong cleaner (& windows open & fans going!) & the brush on the new finish. The result was beautiful ... as long as it lasted!! Wasn't worth all the work & trouble! I'd guess my next alternative would be a made-to-order fiberglass tub/wall insert (which is also $$ but should last longer). To remove the cast iron tub would mean chopping it up or knocking down some walls & I really want to keep that heavy old tub! My other bath tub is steel & I can keep the ?porcelin finish clean by using Tub & Shower spray on the sides after wiping down the sides with the washcloth/tub water after use. Haven't seen any ring at all after a year & that is all I need to do to keep it clean! Before I had to physically get in the tub weekly to clean the sides of soap ring (we have hard water)... now that is 'history'!

A good vacuum with a brush attachment should be adequate for the smooth surfaces; you don't want to scratch anything. An industrial vacuum with an extra long hose and pole extensions might help ease some of the toting and lifting. I don't think I'd wash anything unless you know the paint has cured adequately. A damp cloth might be all you need to remove anything stubborn. After you've run your furnace and A/C for 24+ hours, check all of the filters and clean/replace them if needed. You'll want to vacuum the carpets, at least a couple of times, to help them de-gas; see what the installers recommend. Richard

Pllog makes a good point. Thank goodness for small mercies - no peeling, no flaking. Funny about that with the previous ovens. Rather surprised about that too as I hadn't heard anything about it. Must say, am a bit mystified by a convection oven whose fan cycles off. Why??? Not to save energy surely since the most energy-light part of the oven would be the fan! I downloaded the manual and saw that bit on page 17 that Rocs pointed out to you. A convection oven that may or may not convect. That's not averaging, I wouldn't say. Anyhow, Monogram has received good reviews and I will say that the forward/backward flow is a not half-bad idea to get good coverage. Not to sound totally condescending, but I just wanted to reiterate a few things that you probably already figured out cooking oh in the course of your life and re: convection anywhere (these are the things that I needed to learn): - pre-heat time. Never mind the beep; let it pre-heat 30-40 mins. - Selecting the correct racks and rack pairs when multi-rack baking. All specify to watch for this esp. with multi-rack cooking. - Air-flow: Take them at their word when they talk whatever their oven needs for clearances and to ensure laminar flow in their ovens. Yours says 1-1.5" clearances on either side from the walls, center the dishes on a rack, stagger them when one on top of the other (mine is v. tolerant about the last in convection mode but the clearances for airflow are definitely imp. I've found) - cooking to dish type: darks, vs. shiny vs. glass. Spills vapourizing to smoke is also surprising. Sounds like the bottom element was on and scorched the spill. I think using your drip try from here on out to help catch spills sounds like the best bet. I don't really know what to say though as it sounds a bit odd. Wouldn't have thought the bottom element could get that hot that it would char spilt pastry. No way that Monogram will come out to check the element to see if it is out of place somewhat? (Its a stretch but that's such an odd happenstance, I'd be dying to see what's under the panels ;-) ). Rhome, you'll figure out the ovens' idiosyncracies no doubt.

There are some inaccurate comments here. Dirt and damage are NOT ordinary wear and tear (which would be something like a smudge behind the sofa on the wall). Your tenant is required to deliver the premises back to you in the same condition in which they were delivered, absent "ordinary wear and tear". Again Dirt and Damage are NOT ordinary wear and tear. Hire a cleaner, have the cleaner put the place in appropriate rent-ready condition, and deduct the cost from the security deposit. Also deduct the cost of any repairs necessary. In some states you cannot deduct the cost of your own time. I don't clean after tenants anymore. That burden is on them. I gave them a white-glove clean property, and they will pay to deliver one back to me, if they fail to do so. You are required to make a written accounting of the security deposit within your state limits - most are 30 days. Some are 45 days. Be sure you do this, as the tenant can recover treble damages from you in some states if you fail to do so. You can most definitely disallow smokers and pet owners in your property. They are not protected classes. Charge every dime it take to put the premises back in order and never allow smokers and pet owners, unless you don't mind extra damage. If you do allow pet owners, maybe one older dog won't do that much damage. I have allowed 2 different 8 year old dogs that were long-term pets with good references over the years. No puppies EVER. No replacement dogs. No smoking ever.

go back to your cleaning thread on LzD you should have a reply button and be able to reply to that thread I just checked and it does not appear to be closed I did have the reply button available, let me know if you still do not have a reply option. You should have a couple more steps to do actually. Your's is the UPS thread correct?

Yep! The idiot who fell for the UPS thing was me. The Reply button was available at LzD just now, as you said, so I left some thanks. I'll PM Corinne about donations. I am also a great believer in paying it forward and already have helped a number of my language students with their computers (in a small way, of course) and help my husband with his computer almost every day. lol He is a language scholar, but has no interest in computers, while I do, and I enjoy the challenges his computer keeps offering!

No, not an idiot, a human mistake and lesson learned. Since you were watching for a UPS delivery, the timing of the phish could not have been better timed.

As to donations, we are all volunteers at LzD. Even the site hosting is donated by Aaron. However, you will find a PayPal link in my last response that is for sUBs, the developer of ComboFix. His knowledge is absolutely amazing. H spends countless hours not only maintaining CF but also helping members of the security community.

I too am a greatful recipient of the the knowledge and patience of many on this forum and the Lzd site and very much appreciate all of you.

I have recommended many of my friends and family to these sites and been able also to pass on things I have learned as well.

All you guys/gals should be proud of yourselves, you provide a valuable service.

Thank you for the information, Corrine. I have made a small contribution to sUBs at PayPal. Wish it could be more. What a great program ComboFix is, and what a great site LzD is--I mean the people who make it possible and run it.
