Has anyone here tried any of these lesser known ones and can say that they're worth trying ?

I am familiar with 8 of the browsers, by name, and have tried Chrome and Opera, but prefer FF. I remember using Netscape on my first PC. Does Juno still exist?

Juno still exists, but Juno is an email provider, not a web browser. I think at one time, they had a custom email program that dialed and downloaded the mail, but they've gone to a web client now. I vaguely remember for a short time, they'd let you do dialup web browsing for free, but for something like 15 minutes at a time. I think it was just an attempt to get you to buy the premium services.

there are several of the lesser known ones that are very good browsers, including Iron Browser,sea monkey, kmeleon, flock, konqueror which I do have on my linux machines along with firefox, Avant to name a few.
you can always download and try one out and then remove it if you don't care for it, as long as it meets your OS specs.

But my main browser is and likely will be firefox for the long haul.

Yep I remember that old Juno! it was the only email I had back then when it did it's own dial up.

I'm more pessimistic and have learned not to count on anything working for the long haul. But we shall see.

Anyone use Chrome? I have no reason to quit FF, but I've heard people really like Chrome.

Don't some of the eccentric browsers require IE for them to be functional? Something to the effect that they piggyback on the coding and engine of IE while using their own coding for operations.

You are correct. There are only about 6 main layout engines for browsers with Trident (Microsoft) being one of them. You can read more about it at:

Jane_ny, I have been using Chrome as my default browser for at least 6 months. I really like it. I never see ads on this website, and Chrome also has ad-ons similar to FF. To configure it, click on the little wrench in the upper right. I use WOT, AdBlock Plus, and I have a bookmarks bar where I can put those I uses frequently besides having the drop down list. I find it very fast, and I like the minimalist UI.

Looks like grandms has been using my computer while I am not around, ha ha. I have the same Chrome setup and am quite happy with it. Opera and FF are also on here but do not get used other than to check the validity of a web site on the different browsers.

A lot of people think that one browser is just fine. Well, what happens when that one browser (usually that one browser is IE) becomes corrupt? How will you be able to get help besides taking it to a shop and ay to have it fixed?

I personally have 3 installed. IE (of course), Firefox (the one I use all the time), and Opera. I installed Opera just for the fun of it though I have never had the time to play with it. :(

BBB, if you add a couple of extra browsers, doesn't that take up a lot of your RAM? Just curious.

Adding browsers is like adding any other software program: they take up hard drive space, but they they don't use up RAM unless they are open.
