size of pony wall next to toilet?

Hi,

What size (length and height) should a pony wall be next to an elongaged (Toto) toilet? The toilet is next to an exterior wall and in the vision line when opening the door. Space is tight, so don't want to overdo it.

Here's a picture of mine - that's Toto Ultramax elongated. Yes, fly, I know, close the cover LOL. Anyway, it's 48" long x 32" high. If you need any other views, or have any other questions, let me know.

thanks, what a beaufiful wall. and the phone too, LOL. Seriously, having a phone in the bath isn't such a bad idea for older folks (probably not you, of course) because bath slips and falls are common in the elderly.

In our layout, the vanity is to the left like yours, but our shower is in-between the vanity and the toilet. Currently the shower is encased in a tall, tiled tower, which creates privacy for the toilet. We want a more light filled shower, so we are knocking down the tower and creating a pony wall on either side of the shower with glass above, so the toilet will still have a modesty panel. We thought about flipping the toilet and shower, but DH does not want to have the toilet next to him when he is brushing his teeth! I don't know if flipping the shower location with the toilet might be an option for you with possible plumbing issues at this late date or not.

Depending on the decor/style of your entire bath, you might find a way to put some beadboard vertically on that side of the rebuilt pony wall. I would think that much more durable and resistant to moisture than MDF. Plus it is 3/8" thick I do believe, taking up less space. Inside the framing have the contractor put some "blocking" so you can screw different things to the wood. Might be a place for the T-paper bracket, the extra rolls could fit behind a sliding partition....most rolls fit on a regular 2x4 so no big deal for them there. Or, you do the beadboard as the back of a shallow shelving unit which stops short of the floor. You sure do not want to have a problem keeping that corner clean. Or to make it look too institutional. I was going to do the same sort of thing with the two halves of a split bath, until I changed the layout.

Tub next to toilet?

You can get integrated 2-sided tubs or deck mount. I would absolutely NOT do freestanding in such a case. It's just not possible for any kind of cleaning. Drop in tub plus wall flange works fine for this installation though if you can't find 2 wall. My plan allows for a deck mounted filler in a pony wall type scenario at the end of the bathtub, but there are other possibilities. Those measurements are to studs, not to the opposite drywall, aren't they? 91 and x/4 (can't read x) minus 2 sheets of drywall gets to 90 and x/4. Unless she is measuring really weird!!!! You can mount a deck faucet on the tub itself if you get the right tub. It works just fine. You can also mount it on the end of the tub or get one that is wall-mounted. You can have a wall tub spout just fine with a 2-wall tub.

I believe that your toilet, in its present location, will not be compliant with current standards. It is too close to the wall. I would go with the plan proposed by your designer. Simple. Straightforward. Elegant in its simplicity. Spend your time and energy on beautiful tile, great hardware, a lovely Roman blind, etc. And...get a free standing toilet paper holder that you can place EXACTLY where you want it to be for use!

Other side of our pony wall is the vanity, had to make the pony wall 54" high to get the vanity electrical outlet spaced above the countertop.

Mine is 4' tall and sits between the shower and the toilet. The height was picked for a couple of reasons...one being that it blocks a person sitting on the toilet from sight when you go by the door and other other is that it gives some privacy to someone in the shower if someone else needs to use the toilet. The space itself is about 5' deep on the side the toilet sits. You can't see the toilet area so much in this pic, (The toilet sits about where the ladder legs are).
