your history? are you clearing all instances of it in browser and machine? which browser are you using?
maybe she has a nanny cam in the room you have the pc in and is watching you.
are you both using the same pc and the same log in? if so create your own personal account on the pc and password protect it with a very strong password she does not know or could guess.
The temp folder also holds a lot of info as well as the cookies.
Sorry I have to say if someone was doing that to me we would have a much bigger problem than where I was visiting online, my husband would not even consider touching any of my computers with out me being right there, or having permission, with out the password it would not get him far anyway.

I am not claiming or accusing anyone of anything, but I have to pass on this one. The Internet is cloaked in a web of anonymity and we never really know the facts, reasons, or claims. Only what is presented to us.

It wasn't all that long ago someone came here looking for direction on how to circumvent passwords for purported valid reasons. I had the same position then too.

I agree which is why the info given is pretty much the run of the mill standard stuff everyone knows about.

There are various ways to do this with hardware and software, and some of them are nearly undetectable, but I'm not going to be more specific than that. I'll just say that, unless your wife is psychic, she has done certain things to your computer. So I have the same view as ravencajun: there's a fundamental problem here that goes beyond how....

Ask my wife .... cute. I did. She's happy keeping the "how to" as her own little parlor trick. No big deal, really. Just was asking about my machine's history, where it's kept, just how much/what kind history is kept, and how to access it. The computer's not passworded. It's a shared computer. From the answers, one would think I'm asking for some kinda top secret info. Doesn't matter. I understand ... you don't know me, I don't know you. I'll figure it out on my own. Might take a while, but I'll do it. Just thought I'd save some time and ask.
BTW, I'm not visiting sites I shouldn't: I know the dangers - I read this forum quite a bit. And, those sites don't interest me.

Aufin I can understand your frustration a little. However look at it from the other side. We have no idea why your wife tracks you (if indeed she does) or why you are concerned. Apart from 'those sites' there is the possibility of a third person involved.

The same issues arise when a password gets 'lost', we really have no idea if the password was indeed forgotten or perhaps the computer was stolen. Or a teen in the home uses the parent's sig to come here to get around parental controls.

If your concern is more than mere curiosity then raven's answer in the first reply here about creating a separate account would seem a wise decision.

As an example of privacy I use a web based email account to keep our 2 daughters up to date regarding my wife's health when necessary. She has ongoing medical issues and I feel it is important to share my thoughts with our girls and for them to chat with me on the issue. Nothing sinister, just a simple way of avoiding a problem perhaps.

on the Internet is kept at different locations on your computer. One location is Start - My Documents - View Tab -
Explorer bar - History.
The Internet also keeps up with were you have been. You can
clear this history at sign-off. Firefox - Tools - Options -
Privacy Tab - Never Remember History - Clear your History -
Remove Indiviual History.
You get the general idea. I would never use a keylogger even if I knew how. If your privacy is envaded I would use
a password. A password for sign on and the hidden administrator.

I talked to a lady once, 30_something - she told me everytime she goes online she makes a new user account and switches to it for all her computer use .. switches back and deletes the temporary account when she logs off... just so her sister on a shared computer mainly, or anyone else that might use it, doesnt get nosy.

cboy I can assure you we KNOW how, but we know nothing of the situation(which is pretty sketchy) and who is involved and this being an open forum where any one can come and go it is not always the smart thing to provide certain types of information. I gave the same info you gave in my original post.

Over the years on forums, some where I was admin, I have seen a lot of situations that were not what they appeared to be from the posting, we would love to believe everything is on the up and up and truthful but we never know. At some point we have to use some discretion.

Methinks some of you are missing the point. My internet activities, passwords aren't an issue. The original question was about any history the computer stores somewhere deep inside. Activities as mundane as when the machine was booted and what programs were opened, not internet activity or passwords. I was asking if such a log exists and where it may be found. I thought maybe such a log, hidden deep inside, would be useful for someone diagnosing problems...... and someone curious about the inner workings of their machine.

As to "silly answers", they don't bothetr me..... I just pass over the "I think, but...." ones: much prefer the ones from people who know. As long as I have been reading these posts whether they pertain to me or not, I've found much of the information given by a few, and you know who you are, was very good, very knowledgeable, and quite helpful. I've learned much just by lurking. And, I DO understand the necessary precautions. I just tought I'd ask.

If your computer is used on the Internet for any reason you
have a right to know all. Ravens (are anybody else's) warnings about such a small matter is nonsense.
We don't need people constantly correcting everything we say.

One can certainly use google to find out how to search history on their pc and where to find logs and events. If I or anyone else choses not to provide info that could possibly be used in a nefarious way that is our business and our right. And to correct you I was NOT the one that brought up the issue you may want to read this thread from the beginning before throwing my name out.

aufin I think you fully understand and I am sure you have very legit reasons for wanting this info I gave you some direction as to where to go to look. I am not faulting you at all here, these are general rules that most help forums follow. If you go back to my original post I gave you every possible place you can search out to find where that kind of stuff is on the pc. Google is your friend.

I'd guess that your wife has installed anyone of the numerous programs available to "spy" on another user of a computer. They won't show up in AV or anti-malware type software if the person installed them runs the AV or anti-malware software and "exempts" the spy software. Try downloading something new. Or, boot from a Linux CD and take a good look around. Or format the drive, reinstall the O/S, and password protect the computer denying her access.

BTW, your wife is suspicious. Is there a reason for that?

Isn't it entirely possible that Aufin's wife is having a game with him? He has stated he was just curious and he certainly cannot be worried. If he was then he would perhaps have acknowledged the info regarding using a password or setting up separate accounts.

It might also be worth noting that Aufin has been a member here well over 3 years so he has not suddenly appeared with this question.

For everyone's information, this is a simple desktop machine, noting fancy that we both use. No separate accounts, no passwords, just turn it on and away we go. A silly stupid machine I'm curious about.

As far as getting involved in a pissing match here, I'm not interested. For the relatively short while I've been reading these, I've learned to recognize certain "helpers" and tend to respect their opinions over others. But, I do read all the answers to the posted questions that interest me. Opinions are like ........ a--, um, noses. I expect everyone to have one.
