Stylish Wood Storage for Contemporary Spaces
Go with a good-looking grain for your home by using wood logs indoors as an architectural or artistic feature
Don't relegate that entire cord of wood you ordered to a spidery shed or the edge of the backyard. So long as your wood is nice and dry and spider free, take advantage of its forms and textures and move a healthy stack of it indoors. If you're lucky enough to be designing a new fireplace, rethink the way you usually store the logs and find a way to integrate them into the design. No matter how clean, modern, contemporary or minimalist your style is, there's a chic way to keep logs indoors.
If you're out of logs by summer, you can use the niche to display tall branches or a sculpture.
It's funny; I look at so many perfectly styled photographs all day that when I saw this one as a thumbnail, I assumed the log niche was a white-framed plasma TV, camouflaged by a picture of logs. This would not be a bad solution if you want a TV over the fireplace.
However, even better, these are real logs, which add a rougher texture to the palette of woods in this beautiful open plan.

Using a pair of log storage niches gives a sense of symmetry.
A minimalist space relies on textures to add warmth and interest; a rugged stack of irregular logs is just what this room full of clean lines needed.
If the fireplace wall is inset, a sneaky niche can be tucked away behind the wall, visible only from certain angles.
Use the proportions of the log storage to add to the dimensions of your fireplace. This log storage area extends the scale of the fireplace overall; all the components are framed to create one whole.
Don't neglect storage for those outdoor fireplace or fire pit logs. There are plenty of places where they can be covered.
Create spaces to tuck the logs underneath the pit itself, in niches beside or underneath an outdoor fireplace, as part of a fence or wall, under a concrete bench or even underneath a sidewalk as you see in the next photo.
Tip: If you're designing a fireplace, break free from traditional thoughts about proportions. This floor-to-ceiling storage niche becomes one of the strongest elements in this minimalist room.
